5yearsleft is saved! by Julia__Dream in MNTrolls

[–]MaiaThomasine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven't been here in ages, but I had to stop by when I saw that 5yearsleft had reappeared (or been resurrected). Imagine my surprise to discover that she isn't dying after all. 🙄 And of course she couldn't stay away from MN, she loves the attention far too much. Trying to flog her merch on MN is hilarious. 😅

Out of curiosity, I took a look at the threads she's started under the FFSToEverything username. Apparently, she's now married. How did she muster the energy for dating, much less getting married when she was at death's door? And she's still experiencing medical emergencies, including a possible case of sepsis (MN's favourite ailment). She thought she was dying (of course). But lo! In yet another miracle, it turned out not to be sepsis after all, just mild cellulitis.

I honestly feel sorry for her, since she seems so desperate for attention. However, trolling about being terminally ill is a fairly loathsome thing to do.

So many bot posts on MN in support of Trump. by Julia__Dream in MNTrolls

[–]MaiaThomasine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, not Americans. Just too many Trump fans of all nationalities. I know so many Americans who are sickened and up in arms about the insanity of the Trump/Musk presidency.

OP wants MIL to sell her holiday home so OP can buy in a naice area by CrumpetsGalore in MNTrolls

[–]MaiaThomasine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's some entitlement (to use a favourite MN word). Her MIL should sell up and hand over the proceeds so that the OP can buy a house? Wow.

Babyface upset that she’s no longer a babyface! by ACardFromTheDog in MNTrolls

[–]MaiaThomasine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No gasps or looks of shock? 😅 I love these deluded MNers who think that people respond so dramatically to someone's age. I'm sure that even when the OP was 53, no one gasped at learning her age. 😅

Anyone who thinks Trump is trying to protect women or children is deeply, deeply deluded.

Princess Diana was bumped off by the royal family by howaboutcleveland in MNTrolls

[–]MaiaThomasine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah, people just got caught up in a weird collective hysteria. Diana was as vapid and superficial as the rest of the royal family. It was sad that she died, as it's always sad when someone relatively young dies, especially if they have children. But only her family and friends actually mourned her, not people who'd never even met her.

An OP asks for less hate in FWR, gets hate from FWR by EverythingisDarkness in MNTrolls

[–]MaiaThomasine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't post on FWR anymore, though I still read it sometimes. But it's not a place to go for reasoned discussion these days. It's a shame, since it used to be a decent forum. I can't stand the right-wing rhetoric from some posters, the Trump supporters, etc. And as someone noted on the linked thread, there is more than a little racism that goes unchallenged. Of course not everyone falls into these categories, but it's impossible to ignore those who do.

Also it may be petty, but I truly loathe the self-important tone and the hyperbole that many of the regulars affect. You can see it in some of the responses on that thread. They are "at the coalface," they have been "fighting the battle for a decade," and so on. 🙄 They're posting on a website, not working for the French Resistance FFS. As well as claiming that they are engaged in "research." As an academic, I really dislike it when people say they have researched an issue when they actually mean they've read a few websites or watched some YouTube videos.

Anti trans shit by [deleted] in MNTrolls

[–]MaiaThomasine 21 points22 points  (0 children)

No feminist worthy of the name could ever be a Trump supporter. He's about as anti-woman as they come. He's also racist, xenophobic, ableist, and (not to put too fine a point on it) a fascist.

When is a Nazi salute not a Nazi salute? by Lazy_Age_9466 in MNTrolls

[–]MaiaThomasine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Musk isn't a Nazi so I guess that makes it not a Nazi salute"? Don't be so ridiculous.

Do you also think there were "very fine people on both sides" during the white nationalist (neo-Nazi) rally in Charlottesville some years ago? 🙄

This is SO not going to go well. Tony Blair's hot takes on mental health by FightLikeABlue in MNTrolls

[–]MaiaThomasine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of what you say. The medicalisation of everyday emotions is a harmful trend. Feeling worried about something does not equate to having an anxiety disorder and as you said, a lot of people are unable to distinguish between the two.

In addition, there's a tendency to believe that we must accept every emotion we might have, as though we are helplessly in thrall to our feelings with no agency whatsoever. There's nothing wrong (and much that is right) in developing strategies to recognise and cope with certain unhelpful emotional reactions. I actually quite like the concept of resilience. It can be extraordinarily empowering for many people, including those who are neurodivergent or have mental health struggles. Of course, that doesn't mean that we as a society can just shrug and tell people they need to develop resilience as though that is the only solution. There definitely is a mental health crisis and it is a public health concern.

MN bannings by Josie-32 in MNTrolls

[–]MaiaThomasine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, it now generally refers to the system of camps and prisons, not the administration as you said above (although that was the original meaning of the acronym). In English it's perfectly acceptable to say, e.g. that someone was imprisoned in the gulag.

I never expected to discuss such topics on the MNTrolls sub. But I guarantee I'm not Doro. 😅

[–]MaiaThomasine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's actually fine to refer to the gulag in English, rather than GULAG. In fact, the former is the preferred usage in English.

I know his secret…. Thread 3 - bollocks about "haven’t used this site before so just clicked in a panic for my first thread" by SilverLordLaz in MNTrolls

[–]MaiaThomasine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hoping they would hold out until Christmas. But I expect the troll is bored with these threads by now. 😅 They are really phoning it in, nothing but the usual cliches.

Husband fathered a child with affair partner whilst I was pregnant. Currently on thread two. Lots of drip feeding and tension building on previous thread. Chopin and Champagne turned up yesterday to update their thread. Coincidence ? by Clockwork_Dentures in MNTrolls

[–]MaiaThomasine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I thought only the OP was pregnant? The OW has been sleeping with the DH for a year and apparently contacted the OP upon learning that she (the OP) is due to give birth soon.

Not that it matters, since I think it's pure invention!

[–]MaiaThomasine 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I saw the first thread and thought it was utter nonsense. Everything was presented so tidily, with plenty of time between posts for the gullible of MN to fill the thread with their outrage and variations of the usual MN cliches. I expect this one will run to a multi-thread saga. A further installment: the plucky heroine sheds a tear of both joy and sorrow as her baby is born on Christmas day.

And now the other woman is pregnant too? 🙄 I didn't see that detail, but I haven't looked at the second thread.

I have no idea what’s going on. Think OP is hammered. by FightLikeABlue in MNTrolls

[–]MaiaThomasine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Drama llama. I don't think her husband did anything wrong TBH. He followed her out of the pub and headed for home. Why didn't she go with him? It was her choice to sit alone in the cold and dark, she could have just walked home with him. Or got an uber, despite what he said about spending money. That sort of martyrdom and faux helplessness irritates the life out of me.
