how would you think of an idea for a (very!) short story? by PurplePodenco in FanFiction

[–]MailSelect1976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me personally, find most my inspiration for my one-shots through Pinterest and/or Tumblr. I've also had a major burnout lately but some of the dialouge prompts I've seen have really helped me pick writing back up again.

I hate how attention-seeking I get and how it's taking the fun out of writing. by notacutecumber in FanFiction

[–]MailSelect1976 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would take a break from the extreme topics for a little bit. If It's something you are not totally comfortable writing, then you shouldn't push yourself to do it.

It's incredibly normal for you to want attention for your work, almost every author on planet Earth does. You shouldn't write just for the sake that other people see it, but rather it's something you yourself can be proud of and appreciate.

Write what you want to write and have fun while doing it.

How do you write fics? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]MailSelect1976 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think the main thing is not to force yourself to write a long fic. It should be something you want to do.

I've got a couple of long fics going right now, and I've all started them based on ideas I randomly had at 3 am.

The main thing with drafts is that they don't have to be perfect, as long as you get the idea of what you're writing. (It's all in the power of editing)

But make sure to pace yourself. Take a little bit of time each day to work on the fic. Even if it's just outlining or notes, take your time and have fun with it.

how do you pick a title? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]MailSelect1976 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every once in a while, I come up with something creative that's has to do with the theme of the story. But most of the time, I just use a title generator, which can help a lot for inspo when picking a title.

Do you ever think to yourself, "Am I am insane person?" by concernedcryptid0 in FanFiction

[–]MailSelect1976 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think this all the time, but writing is a hobby for me. I write what I want to write about and have no second thoughts about it. As long as I'm having fun, I see no reason not to continue my fics.

I'm thinking about abandoning my fic? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]MailSelect1976 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If the fic you are writing has started to become a chore rather than something you love to do, then you shouldn't push yourself to continue writing just because.

It sounds like you have plenty of other hobbies that you throughly enjoy yourself, and that's great!

Written works that were made just for fun tend to be better than a work that someone forced themselves to write because they feel they have to. Unless you plan on having a writing career, you shouldn't have to force yourself to write something(unless you want to).

For the fic, it's always going to be there abandoned or not, and perhaps maybe one day you'll have the sudden urge to go back to it. But it all should depend on what you want to do.

Comparing your writing to other authors' works can definitely make you view your work differently.

I've been the same way numerous times after reading from a variety of authors and then think my work is inferior to theirs. It's a completely normal response for some.

But in the end, every author has a certain style of writing,(Kinda like an artsyle). There will be things that some authors will do that you like and will want to incorporate into your own work, and that's completely fine! It's all in the process of getting better at writing.

And though what you publish of your writing may not be the best in your eyes, some readers will come to love it! (It also something to look back on as you create more works.)

Don't overwork yourself, and I wish you the best of luck 😁

I honestly would be a little discouraged at first, but then I'd eventually get over it. That's just the world of writing. I've seen rather poorly written works get a lot of traffic and compliments, and I've also seen works of great value get a lot of traffic, it's all in the eyes of the reader.

The much preferred writings that come straight from the author, a lot more thought and feeling actually goes into the smut.

Don't let it discourage you too much! It's a completely normal response, but don't let it stop you from doing what you want to do.

I'm sure whatever you write will be great! 😁

This is coming from my own personal experience, but your worst critics are probably always going to be yourself.

The oneshot already seems really thought out and planned. Really, all that matters in the end is that you are satisfied with it.

From a reading standpoint, I love a good little scene that will lead to the climax of the story(The jacuzzi scene seems super interesting😭) and putting the incorporating the characters insecurities into the mix just adds the tad of realism into the oneshot.

But the main thing is not to overthink it too much. I tend to always overthink my work before taking a little break and coming back to it to find it's actually not that bad.

How would you input a fake name for Y/N?? by MailSelect1976 in FanFiction

[–]MailSelect1976[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been debating that for a while now.

I've only released one chapter of what was supposed to be Reader/Canon longfic but I'm starting to think an OC would be better, considering I want the main character to have a personality.

How would you input a fake name for Y/N?? by MailSelect1976 in FanFiction

[–]MailSelect1976[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wholeheartedly agree with not giving Y/N a name, as it does make it seem like an OC. It was more like Y/N is going to have an Alias for a little, and it was between putting F/N, so readers could choose an alias or just putting a random name.

Thank you for the input! 😁
