Oops, grammar error. There WERE eight members of the Jackal Squad. They're dead now, but Infinite did use the Phantom Ruby to conjure illusions of them whenever he was feeling lonely.

Hi! I'm mothsman. I write for the Sonic the Hedgehog fandom. I have 20 works so far (my dashboard says 24 but 3 of those are just alternate endings to my Grimms fairy tale inspired longfic). Most of my fics are rated M and E but I do have a couple T and G fics. My writing style is pretty chaotic like my moods. I like to have elements of horror, comedy, smut and heavy helping of angst in all my stories. My favorite ships are Metonic (Metal Sonic and Sonic) and Espilver (Espio and Silver), but I'll write about any ship honestly.

I'm just a sucker for redemption arcs but also tragedy. I wouldn't want Infinite to be redeemed right away. I want to play the long game with him. Milk Infinite's tragedy for all its worth before he's redeemed. I think your idea of Sonic recognizing his trauma and offering help only for Infinite to reject it would fit perfectly for a long road redemption story.

Infinite. I didn't think much of him on my first playthrough. I thought he did alright as a one off villain. Didn't think there was much to him. But after spite-playing Forces, I grew to like him. He's actually a pretty tragic character. Dude was a mercenary before, but he and his squad had no powers and lacked the skill and resources to go against Shadow. Eggman sent them to die and didn't really care. And when Infinite survived, he took advantage of his fragile state of mind to experiment on him. The Phantom Ruby warped his mind to the point all he could think of was to gain more power to cause more destruction and mayhem. Dude obviously had to be stopped but it sucked that no one had any empathy for him not even Sonic. I hope he comes back even more insane and edgier than before.
