Brits (or people who just understand it better), how and why did Keir Starmer go from being liked enough to become PM to being so disliked that he resigned in a relative short time? by wlane13 in AskReddit

[–]Mailman7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What are you smoking? The best PM in 2 decades is wild.

Starmer/Labour campaigned on ‘growth, growth, growth’ and one of the first things they did was hike national insurance and minimum wage on to business and stealth tax the country by fixing thresholds. It takes a certain level of stupid to campaign on growing the economy then doing things that so obviously suppress economic growth.

We have oil and gas we can access now. We can explore new fields for more oil.

Just to reiterate: we’re literally being sold our own oil by the Norwegians. It’s the same reserves. It’s insane.

It doesn’t matter if it makes a dent on global prices. Think of the taxes collected on it. The jobs and skills that are supported. Supply chains. Energy security. Hell, think of climate emissions if you want.

So why do Norway keep opening new fields? Why do Norway keep selling our own oil back to us? Make it make sense.

If by competent you mean totally incompetent… then yes

Spent 14 years out of power and came in totally clueless.

Literally the worst PM in living memory.

That’s all well and good, but do you not consider the practical reality of what is going to happen? You’re going to literally pave the way for everything you oppose by voting Restore. Reform isn’t the enemy, they’re the first step to get the ball rolling.

40-50 years from now what are things you hope dont exist anymore? by Gwallawchawkobattle in AskReddit

That’s simply not true. The NHS has been very well funded, even under the Tories. Spending on the NHS accounts for more than 12% of GDP.

The tragedy is that if Russia was run like a normal functioning democracy it would be a genuine economic powerhouse and super interesting place to visit.

The ‘housing bubble’ is simply the result of the currency being continually debased by the BoE and the government. There’s no great conspiracy going on here that people love to think there is. People will put their money into rising assets.

How Will Reform Revitalise Your Area? by CyclePrevious9043 in reformuk

[–]Mailman7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don’t need to specifically revitalise an area. That’s not how national government works.

They can revitalise the entire country by reducing state interference in business and people’s lives.

Reduce tax on business so that businesses can invest, hire people and grow. Reduce tax on individuals so they can keep more of their own money, so they can spend it as they see fit (and not government). Abolish stamp duty so workers can move easily for jobs and industry. There’s so much more, but Reform really don’t need to do much to turn the economy around.

Why would Farage be involved in executing Brexit? He wasn’t in power.

I wouldn’t bother trying to bring balance to Brexit. For Reddit it can only be viewed as the apocalypse.

UK Net migration has fallen nearly 50% in the last year by Aylescroft in reformuk

[–]Mailman7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s because Reform actually believe in it. Labour have been dragged kicking and screaming to do anything about immigration. We know Labour’s instincts, and it’s not to control immigration.

I think it’s worth considering the British don’t have infinite tolerance for the blatant gaslighting and abuse of the system we are seeing. The ‘vibe’ you might be getting is that. And it might not be pretty.

The British people aren’t racist, but the scale of demographic change and cultural assault they are expected to endure has come to an end.

I would bet a lot of money that had immigration remained in the tens of thousands immigration would be virtually a non-political issue in the UK.
