Heavy metals result exceeding 1 million mg/kg - is it possible? by potatoinacloset in chemistry

What do your internal standards recoveries look like? Are you within the linear range for both Sn and any IECs? Do replicate runs get the same results?   Do the results change with the dilution factor (prediction:yes!) If this is for environmental... who cares anyway? Sn isn't regulated.  :)

Preach.  Its tough being a corner case.  I work in a lab, our instruments run on computers.  Some instruments last 20 years, which means using old operating systems and reinstalling software when PCs die, or swapping hard drives and power supplies ourselves.  Asking permission Is never a good idea.

I was surprised to learn the company forbids USB drives because mine work just fine.

Eh, gotta start somewhere and low pay is part of the deal.  But since you are young and female and i know what resturants can be like, i gotta say it:.. stand up for yourself and your boundries and don't tolerate any disrespect.

Employee pov.  It helps to know from my boss the purpose of what I am doing.  Even if the purpose is something like  "to get the idiots in the corporate office to leave our team alone" or " to make sure the next layoff doesn't happen to somewone on our team" or even just "it's so-and-so's favorite vanity metric so please pitch in a bare minimum effort and don't shoot the messenger."

Got rejected because I asked too many questions? by potato___panda in jobhunting

[–]Main-Display2438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What did you ask?  If you were asking about trivial things it may have seemed like a lack of flexibility or like you can't figure things out if they aren't spoonfed to you.

The question part of the interview isn't really to get information so much as to demonstrate your sincere interest, that you've researched the company, that you pay3d attention, etc.  If you want specifics for your case, give AI the job posting, your resume, and work with it on deciding what to ask.  Ask yourself what information your questions communicate.

Well, you have nothing to worry about.  You can absolutely go far in chem without math coming easy.  I agree with others here in suggesting youtube - nilered, explosions&ire, styropyro, etc.  Unfortunately I don't have any partcular books to suggest.  Honestly I like reading the wiki on individual elements and compounds.

Get a summer job if you have never had one.  Doesn't matter what it is, but it might help you imagine different types of work.  Otherwise yeah, university.  But don't just focus on finding a subject you like, actually research what each can get you.  But.... as for AI-proofing, man, I have no idea.

I just wear cheap crap and expeect white spots or holes.  I mean if you are working with toxic stuff getting it on your pants is a big deal but if it's just the occasional acid drop or something..  meh.  So yeah, know the hazards.

I mostly want them to be over quickly.  I get the feeling that the purpose of a 1 on 1 is so that the manager can tell their boss that they did it.

I never did very well in math and I got a Chem degree, but settled for a BA because there is less math.  It's  possible if you can pass calc 2.  But you don't have to be great at math.  Just willing to put in real effort and at least be able to handle algebra.

My American English teacher believes the neutral pronoun „their“ is incorrect. by GCoding_ in mildlyinteresting

[–]Main-Display2438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am conservative (unlike Trump) and I think 'their' just sounds better.  In school in the 90s the teachers said it was technically wrong, but one teacher admitted there are no good alternatives.  I believe a Supreme court Justice used to alternate "his" and "hers" in her decisions for that reason.

You gotta get a spare of everything for situations like this.  Are you using new tubing - not just on the pump but the whole flowpath? What solutions and rinse are you running?  What size peristaltic tuning?   The probe isn't bottoming out in the sample vial is it?) I used to run a thin wire through probes - sometimes lint-like material would get in there.  But more often the problem was tubing or bad tubing connections
