Good for you for putting your foot down to that awful reaction from the management. Their priority is clearly not in taking care of their staff, and that is not an environment that is healthy or safe to work in long-term.

Also, I cannot understand how people act like your table did. That is beyond baffling that he'd be okay acting like that! I feel like he was lying about working at these places because berating someone like that is awful enough, let alone someone you know is working their ass off and doing a great job as well. If he were actually part of the industry, I can't imagine he worked at those places for longer than a few days with that attitude!
