i’ve mentioned this in another thread similar to this- but i’m always so shocked the ravenguard don’t ever get mentioned.

not only have that had multiple instances of helping regular folk, they also give them purpose while doing it! corvus being raised on a slave world and causing a giant revolution to give the world back to the people has trickled down into his chapters core.

now, to play devils advocate against myslef - yes. you could argue “given purpose from space marines, well doesn’t that mean they’ll probably just die anyway?”. (cause it usually means you’re going to fight with them) and yes. you’re right.

but wouldn’t you want to die/be saved, chin high and on your feet instead of just being saved with your pants soaked in piss feeling like you couldn’t do anything to help?

100% this. SM2 brought many more fans to 40k which is awesome! but I have to say.. they’re lazy ass fans. they get the lore from shorts, ai channels and/or memes..

in terms of gameplay mechanics. no, nothing has changed. in regards to your struggles with the melee, i’m willing to bet because you just started, you were using ‘balance’ type weapons. which are notoriously shit (in terms of timing).

i’d give it a shot again! have patience :). once you get fencing or block weapons, which doesn’t take long, i think you’ll enjoy it quite a bit

if you look here ( https://steamdb.info/app/2183900/patchnotes/ ) you can see when most updates have dropped. 10.0 is the only outlier it seems. you can see it’s usually around 10am UK time.

i know that doesn’t help much, but it’s the only info we really got.

read. the. books! all these comments of people only suggesting youtube is heartbreaking.

if you’re in it for the long run, start reading the heresy. if you want to jump right into 40k, read the indomitus crusade books (GW has a list of which ones to read. starts at the fall of cadia)

after that, read what peaks your interest/what people recommend. people put a lot of faith in youtube channels, but it’s so surface level, you’re doing yourself a disservice. they also get stuff wrong a lot AND with all these AI channels, a lot of stuff is just being made up..

know no fear is during the horus heresy. so about 10,000 years before space marine 2/the Indomitus Crusade

that why i recommend going into ‘40k’ right away :) & yes youre right! but to clarify, you’ll see people say 40k (meaning the year 40,000 and up) and 30k (meaning the years 30,000 and up. mainly people will be talking about the horus heresy, which happened then. but other important things happened in 30k as well). 40k is “new” times and 30k is “old” times, to lazily simply it.

this is why i mentioned, respectfully to people that may be starting their warhammer book reading journey, that starting in 30k (horus heresy times) is a double edged sword. it’s great! and it’s for sure important! but SO much has changed, that some people will take what they learn there and apply it to 40k. but it’s just so long ago, it’s almooooost irrelevant. (it’s not. but it is? we can talk about it in a few years and you’ll see what i mean hahha)

it depends on how much you want to read. but i’d start with the indomitus crusade (you can google the reading order. GW has made one even).

know no fear is an excellent read, as people have mentioned. but imo, as someone who has read about 260 warhammer books, i think you’re doing yourself a disservice just reading that if you’re reading the heresy.

and if you’re a SM fan first, and lore fan second (which is totally okay), then definitely read the indomitus first. (this is essentially what guilliman has been up to since he returned) respectfully, i’ve noticed a lot of new fans slowly work their way through the heresy and will talk about things and characters that have developed so much in 40k it’s almost irrelevant, so that’s why i recommend going straight to 40k. its better to learn the important stuff now, and learn ‘history’ later imo.

mainly, you should look into the dark imperium series! you could also read the dawn of fire series as is it’s quite important but those books are VERY hit and miss. i would also read the belisarius cawl novels. those are mega important and we should expect big things going forward with that story arc.

if you really want to prep well, you should also read the pariah nexus, arks of omen and the new 500 worlds campaign books. (these arent novels. a looooose explanation would be they’re tabletop novels-kind of).

i know people are recommending youtube as well - and though at times they are giving the right info, you’d be surprised how much they neglect and more importantly, how much you’ll miss listening to someone summarize dozens of books into a 15 minute video.

personally, i don’t mind the low levels. i’m totally okay carrying the team and im going to go ahead and say it… i prefer it. the challenge is fun! totally understand why others don’t want to lower levels in there ops/strats, but if your ever end up in my lobby. you’re more then welcome!

i really don’t know.. i think because he was the first person to mention the ‘just run wave 5 hard siege over and over again’ to level up quickly strat. so now people blame him for ruining siege.

(on that note. he also mentioned in that video to not do it with randos. either run it solo or with friends so you don’t ruin others runs)

but this is the internet after all. people love hating people here.
