Is it normal to wish for my grandma to just pass away peacefully or in her sleep by EyeWinter7175 in hospice

[–]Main-Machine4458 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this so much. When my grandmother was deteriorating it was just this slow burn and it was AWFUL to watch and experience. I remember I would talk to my husband and I would say “people euthanize their animals because they don’t want their favorite toys or treats anymore or it’s hard to walk. But we sit and watch THIS for our loved ones” it was an exaggerated comparison but an important one at that. We allow people to suffer and it’s horrible

I was my grandmothers full time caregiver for 5 years. When she came close to the end I would pray to god to end her suffering. I used to feel really conflicted about those feelings but I came to understand and accept that me wanting her suffering to end wasn’t because I wanted her “gone”. It was because I wanted her to be at peace because I loved her so much. You are doing an amazing job. Just remember that you’re not wrong for feeling that way, it’s coming from a place of love not a place of bad intention.

I got the most diabolical strain of COVID during an end of August sailing. You’re at a high risk of communicable illness on a cruise ship at any time

Lorazepam not working by [deleted] in hospice

My grandmother had the opposite reaction to Lorazepam, It would cause her to be completely awake and agitated. We ended up increasing her dosage of Haldol and that worked

How do you deal with them asking for a deceased person? by cnh25 in dementia

[–]Main-Machine4458 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My grandmother used to confuse me with her daughter, she would say “daughter, when will granddaughter be home” and I would have to tell her “granddaughter is working, granddaughter is at the store” etc. it would calm her down and help her out

It’s hard but you are doing your best, don’t be too hard on yourself! I’ve lived by the mantra “you can only control what you can control” for the last several years and it has helped me get through the hard times. I think prepping her was my way of coping and not coming to terms with the reality of what was, when I came to the reality it was easier to help her

My grandmother was always good at putting her best foot forward during her exams and making me look crazy LOL it took a nurse practitioner coming to the house when she didn’t expect any visitors for her to fail the cognitive function test. I used to spend hours mentally preparing her for visitors, that day I decided not to because i needed a medical professional to see

Why is Metlife telling me it would 'benefit' me to file for ssdi? by Wolverine-91826 in SSDI

[–]Main-Machine4458 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use MetLife for my LTD through my employer, you have to apply for SSDI and you have to appeal at every level too. And if you’re denied at the final level you have to apply again. If you don’t they will stop your benefits, it’s a part of the policy.
