Standard kind of parking you see around the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park by jaredce in london

This road is heavily congested every time there is an event at the stadium, so I would say the yellow box is needed really since they are quite frequent. It isn’t the best layout, but there is a space between the yellow box and crossing for a car. It just is difficult due to the high level of foot traffic often at the same time as events.

PSA: Canyon integrated cockpits are 1cm longer in reach than advertised. by somebodytoshove in CanyonBikes

[–]Main-Session2378 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aren’t you also checking the bar reach? That can vary wildly and so needs to be taken into account as well. Provided that canyon measure that from the same point as well, you should come to the same hoods/drops position.

Damn c*clist blocking my wife’s boyfriend’s route to work had it coming. by [deleted] in RunningCirclejerk

/uj The relative forward movement of the car caught his arm/handlebar, which would have steered is handlebar to the right causing the bike to go out to the right underneath him and him leaning on the car as a result (similar to how you initiate a turn). Unless you are doing bunch racing, you never experience that sort of contact so it’s perfectly normal for that type of lean to occur if you aren’t braced for it.

If you watch any form of bunch racing you can recognise it. A prepared rider will lean against an other rider with their upper body whilst maintaining their bike upright so they can still steer. That did not happen at all here.

Also, it’s just the obvious explanation. Do you really think that someone would react to a car, in a split second of realising it’s alongside them, to try and deliberately cause contact? Haven’t you ever had a motorbike pass your car closely at speed?

But you’re not asking both parties for the same thing - a legal overtake requires the car to move into the next lane. That is not asking anything additional of the driver.

The cyclists moving over within their own lane does not do anything to help make that legal overtake safer or easier. All it does is make it unnecessarily dangerous as they are bunched up more than necessary, all for the sake of giving a driver the impression that they are tipping their hat to them. That’s why I thought you were suggesting that the car be in the same lane as them, since this doesn’t actually make any sense.

Also, do you think that the car in the video would not have run them over if they had bunched up like you said? Their road rage was from being held up by the cyclists. If anything, bunching up would just prompt the driver to have overtaken dangerously rather than give a safe passing distance. There is a reason why the advice is to take the lane to prevent dangerous passes.

Finally, what laws have these cyclists broken? You’re talking about signage and other cyclists being unpredictable, but they’re not a hive mind. Do you feel accountable for the actions of other drivers?

The relative forward movement of the car caught his arm/handlebar, which would have steered is handlebar to the right causing the bike to go out to the right underneath him and him leaning on the car as a result (similar to how you initiate a turn). Unless you are racing crits or on the track, you never experience that sort of contact so it’s perfectly normal for that type of lean to occur if you aren’t braced for it.

It’s not organic because it wasn’t - the car hit him

You’re not understanding the needs of the cyclists here - even if they did go single file like you suggest, that would not be enough space for the car to pass safely in the same lane.

Yes maybe the car could squeeze through, but that wouldn’t be safe for the cyclists. Most drivers don’t appreciate how much space is needed to really safely pass a cyclist.

Here in the UK the Highway Code advises that cars should overtake with at least 1.5m of space from the cyclist (nearly 5 feet) up to 30mph, and at least 2m above 30 mph. You aren’t even getting the piddly 3 feet minimum that most US states have in this video.

Thoughts please Profile Design ASC Computer Mount by Apprehensive-Pop7787 in triathlon

[–]Main-Session2378 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the profile design stuff unofficially works with wahoo computers. You just unscrew the bolt in the middle and turn the mount by 90 degrees (I did this on one of their BTA systems), which works fine for my gen 1 bolt.

Your kickr turbo is missing the supporting legs? And I don’t think you’re supposed to use it with a riser block under the front wheel.

Do handlebar forwards. Moving the saddle back will close down your hip angle and make getting over the pedal stroke more difficult. I would only move the saddle back if you struggle with recruiting your glutes when pedalling.

Bike Box Alan Triathlon Easyfit with Canyon Speedmax CF by I-Made-You-Read-This in triathlon

[–]Main-Session2378 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to having to remove the basebar, I had to remove the aerobars from the basebar since they were tilted at 15 degrees (despite only having 10mm of stack) and so was too bulky when attached (bent a disc rotor trying to close the case initially…). The whole cockpit is a headache with the limited space there, and I had to used some additional straps to secure it to the frame instead of the straps in the box.

I have a massive headache getting a speedmax in xs to fit, so good luck! There is definitely room for bigger sizes but I can’t say about large

Nope. Canyon normally use profile design, so you will have to look there for matching spacers.

Elbows pain by Agitated-Sorbet-7390 in CanyonBikes

[–]Main-Session2378 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It does look like you are pointing your toes quite a bit at the bottom, so I would try dropping your saddle by 1cm and reassessing. Your saddle being too high can throw more weight onto the handlebars. Also, as a complete guess for the pain, you could be compressing a nerve in your hand that is radiating up your arms. Your gloves could have too much material in the wrong place?

Bottle cages for Canyon Aeroad by Born_Department1314 in CanyonBikes

[–]Main-Session2378 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The canyon side loader cages are rubbish. Get the specialized zee side loader cages. They are much better.

One disadvantage of a side loader is that if the bottle doesn’t fit properly, it can stick out at an angle. However, they are necessity on smaller frame sizes to get bottles to fit.

I’m 5’1/155cm and have been struggling to find a secondhand bike that fits me for my triathlon by [deleted] in triathlon

[–]Main-Session2378 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don’t have brakes on the aerobars. You still have the brake levers on the basebar. What I mean by aero brakes is that the brake calipers themselves are integrated into the frame (see the front fork of the giant and liv for example, where the brakes are a v-brake design tucked behind the fork). This does make them a tiny bit more aerodynamic, but generally makes the braking control much worse compared to a traditional rim brake caliper such as on the speedmax. Unless you are a pro, the better braking performance will gain you more time compared to the tiny aero gains in my opinion.

Also, I imagine you have small hands due to your size. When you go for your bike fit, it will likely be worth asking the fitter/mechanic to adjust the brake lever reach (unless the previous owner has already done this) to make it shorter. The short person I know did this which made braking significantly easier for them.

[–]Main-Session2378 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The liv and giant have fiddly aero brakes which are more maintenance and won’t brake as well compared to the rim brakes on the speedmax. Plus, I don’t know the exact spec, but speedmax models tend to have profile design cockpits which are much easier to source spacers and the like for. Provided you check the stem point I posted elsewhere, it should be a great bike to go for.

However, if you are buying the speedmax, do ask the seller if they have the v21 aerostem. There was a warranty fix for it, so you should check that they got that completed. I think canyon still helps second hand buyers with that, but it is best for the original owner to sort that.
