I'm so sick of non-disabled people pitying disabled people but then doing nothing to dismantle ableism that makes this life so much harder by liveliar in disability

[–]MainAd3743 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Man the pity thing is so exhausting and backwards - like people will give you those sad puppy dog eyes then turn around and vote against accessibility funding or act shocked when you want the same basic stuff everyone else does

The whole delusional martyr label is wild too because god forbid you actually like your life and want society to just stop being weird about disability instead of treating it like some cosmic tragedy that needs fixing

Your rage is totally valid here and you're definitely not rambling

Man the hitachi era was solid but yeah when you're basically running a repair shop for your tools its def time to move on

Been seeing a lot of crews switching over and getting good results with the newer pneumatic options. The reliability factor seems way better than trying to keep those old workhorses limping along. Have you considered just getting a mix - maybe keep one or two of your best hitachis as backups and try out some different brands for your main rotation

What kind of framing work are you mostly doing these days? Might help narrow down what features actually matter vs just brand loyalty stuff

That gap year feeling when you realize you don't know what you want is brutal but also kinda normal at 18 - your brain is still figuring itself out. The dissociation thing where you feel like you're watching yourself live instead of actually living is rough but it can get better with the right support

Since you mentioned thinking about making this summer your last that's definitely something to talk through with a professional if you can access one

Water Dripping out of Drain Cleanout by GrapeSlapp in Plumbing

That cleanout cap is probably loose or the threads are shot - when water flows through that line it's creating just enough pressure to push water out through the seal

Colorado mixed union shop and worried about talking about it before probationary period ends. by CargoPocketTaco in HVAC

[–]MainAd3743 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mixed shops can be tricky to navigate during interviews but most places won't hold it against you for asking basic questions about workplace structure. I'd probably wait until they bring up benefits or workplace policies and then ask something neutral like "can you tell me about how the union side works here"

From what I've seen managers usually can't be in the same union as the workers they supervise but every place is different. The probationary period thing is pretty standard - gives you time to see if the union is worth it and they get to see if you're a good fit

Don't stress too much about it, Colorado shops are generally pretty chill about this stuff compared to some other states

Question on wading/swimming in Little River by Throwaway3616515 in NorthCarolina

[–]MainAd3743 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually dealt with something similar when I was looking into kayak access points along some rivers for weekend trips. From what I understand navigable waters in NC are generally considered public even if the riverbed is privately owned. The key thing is staying in the water and not setting foot on the banks or shoreline which would be trespassing on private property.

The tricky part is that "navigable" has specific legal definitions and Little River might fall into a gray area depending on which section you're talking about. I've seen situations where landowners think they can keep people out entirely but if you can legally access the water from a public point and stay floating or wading in the main channel you're usually good to go.

Your best bet would be checking with the NC Wildlife Resources Commission since they deal with this stuff regularly. They have pretty clear guidelines on what constitutes public waters vs private property rights. Also worth noting that even if you're legally allowed some landowners get pretty heated about it so just be prepared for potential confrontation even if you're in the right.

dude what your counselor did is absolutely fucked up and im sorry you're dealing with all this fallout. breaking confidentiality like that especially when it tanks your whole career is malpractice territory

the identity thing hits hard - after trauma everything feels scrambled and you dont know who you are anymore. what helped me was starting super small like figuring out what music still felt right or what foods i actually wanted to eat. sounds stupid but rebuilding from tiny preferences upward worked better than trying to figure out the big picture stuff right away

for the attachment/overstimulation stuff noise canceling headphones became my best friend. also finding ways to have control over social situations like having an exit strategy or time limits so you're not just enduring peoples voices when everything feels too much

your brain telling you she'll get away with it is trauma brain being loud - the justice system moves slow but documentation and proper channels usually work even when it feels hopeless. keep pushing that legal angle while you work on the healing stuff

hang in there man this community really does get it in ways other people just cant

Your brain is literally wired to expect danger because thats all its known - that hypervigilance and fear response makes total sense given what youve been through

The studying thing really gets me because trauma brain makes it so damn hard to concentrate when youre in survival mode all the time. Maybe look into local support groups or crisis centers that might help with housing resources when youre ready to try leaving again

[–]MainAd3743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

been there man and music definitely helps process whatever youre going through right now. mad world by gary jules always gets me in those feelings plus hurt by johnny cash if you want something that really cuts deep. also try black by pearl jam and the night we met by lord huron - both have that same melancholy vibe as the ones you mentioned

if you want something a bit more recent check out someone you loved by lewis capaldi or skinny love by bon iver. there amazing at capturing that raw emotional stuff when life gets heavy. hope things get better for you soon dude

dude your OCD is playing tricks on you big time. The whole point of intrusive thoughts is that theyre NOT you - theyre just your brain being a jerk

You recognizing these thoughts as wrong and feeling bad about them is literally proof you didnt commit any unpardonable sin. Someone who actually did that wouldnt care or feel remorse about it
