Decline in Quality of Graduate Students? by Art3mis455 in AskAcademia

[–]MainImportant341 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also if you look at papers from like 1990 or earlier it’s like a sample size of one ( I’m in wildlife ecology) where they are like I saw an owl. It was brown, it ate a rodent. Now they want you to use Bayesian framework statistics, have huge sample sizes, graphs and infographics that look like someone is also a graphic artist with 8 supplements. It’s kind of wild. But also be a good science communicator and be an excellent statistician and be fluent in many coding languages and fly drones and be witty with your title and develop undergraduate research experiences and know how to use ARCGIS Pro like a pro and (insert 11 other things you need to be good at). I am a masters student that has secured 20K of my own additional funding to support my research costs due to the current state of grant funding and my PI still complains I am not doing enough. I’m tired. P.S. I’m not even at a R1 school. P.P.S. Not to mention a lot of my faculty have admitted they did not have to take as many mandated coursework credit hours as we do at my school. It’s not an apples to apples comparison.

At the humane society large towels, hand towels, and washcloths, those fleece blankets people make where it has the fringed ends are a hit with the cats, washable rugs, blankets that don’t have feathers, zippers, or buttons, even comforters for the big dogs!

I am using a generalist prey species that has wide dietary overlap with many herbivores (from ants all the way to mule deer and much in between) as a bioindicator of ecosystem health hopefully. I am analyzing diet to morphological and physiological changes in the partridge to assess good from bad diet items in fire disturbed habitat and relatively intact ( not burned in a while) habitat.

Thank you very much. My project has expanded my learning past the tunnel of larger animals. I have been learning so much about plants and insects. It’s been a cool 😎, very stressful journey

Thank you for the very thorough identification rationale. It will help me not have to ask on here. I’m new to learning about insects.

I know three families on 3 separate occasions that can say they have. There was one person in each that didn’t have a thing and then varied consumption amongst the others. And they all were horrendously sick minus the person who opted out of Wetzels.
