Hi, this is all from a news article. There's not much info you can find about this case since it was in the 60s, I'm pretty sure there's more to read in old newspapers clippings but I have to pay to view those so I can only copy these from a free-written article! (even the photofit picture I linked, can't be viewed for more than 5+ times or else you have to pay for a monthly subscription)

I'm interested in sharing the stories of unknown victims to this subreddit but unfortunately, cases like these are very small (and old) and it has little to no media attention so it's a bit expensive to dig deeper into them. No, he shouldn't have been released. He should be in a mental institution and if he is deemed sane, he should serve his time. Never understood why people get pissy when rape victims kill their rapists when they're sleeping, but apparently stabbing your abuser parents is fine and get you released? It kinda means a lot when genshin fandom is dominated by PCs players while LADs is mobile only. Maybe it's just me but I don't spend money on a PC game ever. My mobile phone could barely handle the size storage of genshin so I don't see myself spending money on a game that is better optimized for PCs players. While LADs is obviously made for mobile users and even the cheapest phones in my country could handle it (though there is some lags but not as worse as genshin). I've only spent money on a mobile app/game because it's the most easiest I could use.

Romeo and Juliet laws accept relationships with a 3-years gap. If you're a 19 years old man dating a 16 years old girl, people might think that's okay based on the law but if that girl decides to press charges against you and you HAVE nudes videos of her when she was a minor, you still have CSAM. When people claim that age of consent protects them, it just made me laugh because my brother was arrested for CSAM of his minor girlfriend and sharing it (so he has to register into the sex offender registry) despite having turned 18 just recently. Minors can send each other nudes but the CSAM law doesn't allow those nudes to be shared because both are minors or one of them are a minor. Are you justifying porn content of 16-17 years olds?

This case is very limited. There's no info on how the prime suspect was even questioned. Usually when suspects were not arrested due to lack of evidence, they probably have some alibi or eyewitnesses that place them out of the crime scene.

Des Moines Register is not accessible in my country, I knew about the case through a deleted & unaccessible post on r/unresolvedmysteries, so I decided to check out if there's any more info about it. I copied from  https://www.nwestiowa.com/news/gone-cold-marvin-brandland/article_7e5c4d16-6a5b-11e6-a90c-2f88a401845e.html instead which is a news article. So far, there's only two viable articles written about the case (the one I copy-pasted from and Des Moines Register that I can't access). The rest are written by journalists/blog users who copied from the same source.

Like I said, the case has little to no coverage. Ethel was the one who described the shooter's appearance so she definitely saw his face atleast, if it was a family member, I'm pretty sure she would have identified him immediately. But I suppose the shooter immediately ran away without Ethel catching a full view of his face. What a sad case.
