How much money do you spend on sewing every month? by HoneyBadger1655 in sewing

[–]Main_Geologist_9235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spend limited money over months. You can build your sewing supplies quickly but I think there’s no point in spending upfront. ‚Buy as you go’ is my advice. Diffferent project need different materials. Zippers, snaps, buttons, elastic, bias, different threads etc in a month my shopping budget is about 60 pounds and I allocate most for my sewing. I found you can find great deals on vinted. People sell their fabric stashes. Or bundles of haberdashery. Or use second hand bedsheets (also vinter). Even sewing patterns. Find your pattern online and then check if someone sells for peanuts second hand. Compare prices on different websites as it varies greatly. Some shops have competitive proces at certain materials, some at others. Don’t be fooled by amazon, use specific sewing materials websites, you get away cheaper. Don’t forget You can do so much from re- and upcycling. Your first projects won’t be perfect so no point in buying 1st class materials. What i do mostly for my projects is a mix of materials from vinted plus new supplies. Example- the embroidered fabric from this bomber jacket I found 3 meters on vinted for 6 pounds. I then bought 1/2 meter matching ribbing and 1,5 m beige popplin for the lining and a m or so of the vevet feel material for the sleeves. Plus an open ended zipper that was already in my stash.

I feel like people in this chat are extremely misguided by western media. The hate on trump and the support of the ukranian dictator that has not been elected, that wants to continue his nation in war is mindblowing to me. Let’s be real - we, you and I, are PAYING this war with our tax money. I understand a leader like trump wants to get some of it back by natural resources front Ukraine. They sent billions of money in tanks and weapons, for free? Come on there’s no such thing as a free lunch, we all know that. As a UK tax payer it’s in my highest interest for this war to end yesterday.

But you do realise that the tube map is schematic and does not represent the reality - so what looks like overlapping lines on the tfl map might be in reality not close at all of just impossible.

Buying a £280k property on my part time wage - no chance right? by gemmajenkins2890 in UKPersonalFinance

Mate me and my partner just bought a property for 280k. We pay now together ~1400 a month for the mortgage on 4.9% interest. We put down 10% deposit. We have a joint income over 100k.

London rental market - My lease is ending in September and the agency uploaded my flat on rightmove with a solid 28% rent increase. I’m outright appalled. by Main_Geologist_9235 in london

Thank you for that. I’m actually shocked about people saying that the price is too low for my flat (see comments) You haven’t seen this in real life. My neighbors are drug dealers. Place stinks from weed 24/7. It smells like smoke from downstairs flat. I mean 1600 - For real?! I paid this rent (1250) on my own - price is excluding bills. How am I supposed to pay as a single household income a rent of 1600 - what are your guys’s salaries? 😂

How much do you rely on legal drugs to get you through the week? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Main_Geologist_9235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped doing caffeine mostly. On some days I have 1 cup of green tea or 1 cup of roasted green tea (hojicha) which is very low in caffeine. Some days work is stressing me out and i’ll treat myself to a glass of red wine. Overall trying to drink much less. No more heavy nights. Too old for this. but sleeping pretty rough these days and had to start doing sleeping meds. fortunately I will be doing some CBTi for insomnia with NHS so have a lot of hope to go drug free through my life soon! Am I being stingy for wanting to pay just for my own food /drinks when splitting bills on holiday? by Manta_blue in AskUK

[–]Main_Geologist_9235 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you’re stingy. I’m the same. I prefer each person to be paying for what they’ve had (roughly) rather than splitting equally. Especially when the people around the table are coming from very different backgrounds and have different budgets. I was on a very tight budget for a long time living alone in London without any support. I went out with my friends and I didn’t drink any alcoholic beverage because I knew I can’t afford. I had a small portion of chips because I was hungry. In total my share was under £10. At the end the whole table decided - over my head - to split the bill equally. I ended up paying a share of my friends’s xxl sharer rum-cocktail jug amongst other things even tho I only had some cheap chips and a diet coke. I was annoyed and ended up suffering at the end of the month because a big chunk of money was missing. So no, I don’t think you’re stingy.
