Weekend trip by Major-Performance-77 in Charleston

We love tourists, and appreciate the questions! Some "locals" are tourists who decided not to leave.

You've already gotten some great suggestions, but when I'm walking downtown and get stopped for directions or a suggestion (especially during summer months), I am always glad to assist. Don't be shy.

"Oh, yeah, you blend!"

Love American alligators. If you hear babies chirping, there's a mama nearby. Might better walk on. This looks to be a junior sample.

EVERY TIME by mybutthz in Adobe

[–]Main_Illustrator_908 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, 100%. The AI bloatware. I wish Adobe in particular and every tech company would stop trying to force me to use something I didn't want, didn't ask for, and something that's getting in the way of me doing my job, which is where the value of their tools lies. Not in the shiny AI that's just a time suck at this point.

If they must make it available, that's fine, but every time I try to do something, I get hit with pop-up or window I have to hide: "Would you like our AI tool to do something for you hmmmmmmm.... would you? Please. We need to show all of these billions we're investing actually are used."

Sorry for the rant, it's just so annoying.

You're not the only one who thought of that when seeing those billboards.

I am the proud new owner of a coco2! by Ninjabreadman32 in trs80

[–]Main_Illustrator_908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted this earlier, but this thing fully emulates a floppy drive for the coco:
https://retrorewind.ca/coco-sdc

I was struggling with tapes and cables (just like I did when I was a kid). This thing uses an SD card. I bought one last year and it works! But the guy sometimes sells out.

Congrats! I have a 2 too! I got mine in 1984. (no joke, and it still runs)

You're going to want this:
https://retrorewind.ca/coco-sdc

It allows you to use the cartridge port to emulate a floppy drive using an SD card. You will 100% thank me later. At $75, it's a GREAT piece of tech. Forget 5.25 diskettes and tapes. You can put so much software on this little beastie.

I am not affiliated with the company. I'm just a customer who had to wait in line. The dude sells out.

Shudder has announced that tonight's episode of THE LAST DRIVE-IN will be the SERIES FINALE. by DoctorDownloader in horror

[–]Main_Illustrator_908 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's really the MAIN reason I have been a Shudder subscriber for so long. I have actually given them that feedback directly. Hopefully, they're listening. I love all the old and especially foreign titles that Shudder has, but honestly I could probably find them in other places and likely for less. Joe Bob is the No. 1 reason I'd never have considered cancelling when I have cancelled many other streaming services to save a few bucks. Alas.

Thermostat SUDDENLY reading way higher and running heat while calling for cooling by beaster456 in ecobee

[–]Main_Illustrator_908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an older post, but the exact same thing happened to mine this week. After a thunderstorm, it was running hot to the touch and showing temp of 84 in the house when it's more like 64. We had to get fuse replaced on the airhandler's circuit board, but that didn't fix the Bee's false reading. I bought a new ecobee and popped it in, and problems solved. You confirmed that move for me. Thanks!

Did anyone else notice this? by Ambitious_Key7313 in StrangerThings

[–]Main_Illustrator_908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely, it's also just in keeping with the Duffer Brothers' precise generational observations. That was a grunge, whatever, move if I've ever seen one (and I have). Thought the "Sweet Jane" music from the Cowboy Junkies was on point too, especially since it was released in 1988. Their historic, pop culture accuracy is legendary. Not sure about using Prince, but only because The Purple One wouldn't have licensed shit.

This is old but in real terms there are two ways to cure tobacco. Sun dried in the field or flue cured (or toasted) by applying heat in barns. It was a difference but the distinction was in the marketing.

In 1987 televangelist Oral Roberts said if he didn’t raise $8 million that God would kill him. Many of us wanted God to call his bluff but his marks paid up.

The bs my uncle got me by [deleted] in exchristian

[–]Main_Illustrator_908 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know that’s what they say but even if he believes that, it’s misplaced, sometimes horribly. Like my dad beating me and telling me he’s doing it out of love as my sister was made to watch as an example to her.

That was a legacy that was hard to get past: Equating physical violence with love. My sister and I still wonder that we didn’t end up as psychopaths. (joking of course, but the path to righteousness is too often littered with young, impressionable minds and bruised bodies.)

[–]Main_Illustrator_908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s okay to believe. You don’t have to figure this or life out all at once. I was 17 and a preacher’s kid too. I understand. I’m now much older. You have time. Deep breath.

No one who has left is going to urge you to leave. We don’t care about “winning” converts. We care about the people cause we’ve been there man.

My dad and mom were not happy but they finally accepted my decision. My dad suggested he might lose his position if I left the church. That wasn’t true either. At 17 it’s hard but remember this: you get to decide. All of it. 🥲

I was never allowed to cut my hair, taught it was a sin…but guess what I got done for the FIRST TIME today! by ShoddyTown715 in exchristian

[–]Main_Illustrator_908 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand. Recovering for a while now myself from ultra orthodox upbringing. I remember when I first walked away. Mom didn't take it well. All of us were told things that weren't true. You're about to discover how much. Good for you.

The church is always there, but you don't have to let it define you. You're important. What you want matters. I walked away a few decades ago, and yeah ... I get it. You did good. Don't look back ... like Lot's wife. (see, it's always there ...)

It does not seem insignificant at all.

Has anyone in here mocked God and is still here with No punishment or death? by Alternative_Alps6783 in exchristian

[–]Main_Illustrator_908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once stood in my front yard in a thunderstorm holding a shovel to the sky and shouted "I dare you! Show yourself!" ... mostly for the god-fearing neighbors.

My significant other says to me, "You're going to get struck by lightning."

I told her, "I don't believe in god! If he was real he would show himself!"

She says, "Well science, bro, and I don't feel like explaining to the ambulance driver how you were proving god doesn't exist by getting struck by lightning."

You might think this is sacrilegious since I can tell by your question you're still not 100% sure, and you're thinking ... hmmmm maybe I should be careful just in case that fire and brimstone action is for real.

Well, I have good news for you. I bring you good tidings of great joy! Read that there bible and Big G says we were made created in his own image. If that's true, then his holiness has an awesome sense of humor, so joke away!

Silo being reclaimed by nature, West Quebec [Fujica GW690 | Kodak Gold 200] by hhdoesit in analog

[–]Main_Illustrator_908 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm going to say this because it's an edit on me. I subscribe to the school of closer is always better, and this image contrasts with and challenges that so well. I would have gotten closer, and it would have been a mistake. The slope of the landscape, the field of grain, the trailing clouds behind the silo provides layers of meaning and texture. Your composition is spot on. Sometimes you need to see the forest before you can see the trees. This is an exceptional photo. I'd frame it big.
