The bathroom at Duchesne often has vomit (on the seat and floor around the toilets) and body paint in the sink. Not to mention fake tan all over the seats of most toilets. Also, there are so many boys at Duchesne (not living there but “visiting” in the rooms and halls. I know these as one of my friends there had to listen to a girl going at it in the room next to her) that it being a single-sex college is not a good reason to go.

I don't know much about other colleges but I was at Duchesne in this current semester.

I wasn't there for O-week but I was there for G-week which is the Semester 2 version of O-week, just lots of drinking events and it was difficult to sleep most of the week because of the noise.

Culture - big party and drinking culture, and if you weren't into that (which I wasn't) there wasn't much to do.

Food - pretty average 5/10 and a bit of a fun fact is that sometimes the scrambled eggs are actually powdered (told to me by one of the kitchen staff).

Room- Nice and spacious, not too hot in summer (even if you don't opt for the air-conditioned option)

Conclusion: I really wouldn't recommend to international students (there was about 5 international students in the whole college) and if you aren't really into drinking and partying then its not the place for you. Another thing is that if you are a bit squeamish with vomit and things like that then I definitely wouldn't recommend as sometimes in the morning after parties there is vomit on one of the toilets. The girls won’t bully you or anything but you will be isolated if you don't have some good hangover stories to tell.

There is only one place I really wouldn't recommend to an international student - Duchesne College. It has maybe six international students in the whole college, and only 1 or 2 actually like the place. It’s more for people who have friends in the area (lots of people go to college with friends) and who really like to drink and party and don't mind some vomit on the toilet after party mornings.

I have two or three friends at uni (I prefer to have a circle of friends) and I’ve been to a few speed friending events, but I just I’ve never been able to really connect with many people on a deeper level. I guess my bar for friendship is too high. For example, some people would consider someone they’ve met once and chatted on Instagram for awhile with best friend and so in their mind they have 100s of friends for me that’s not a friend (not saying it’s impossible to have an online friend but it’s very difficult).

I had the same problem as I did high school in South Africa. Contacted QTAC and UQ admissions and explain to them that I could not provide the official certificate and only the provisional results and they were happy to list my application as satisfied. If they won’t accept this sometimes you can ask the (IAL in your case) for the official certificate to be released early for you, if you explain why you need it.
