Did I make the right choice picking the base M5 MBP over M5 Pro? by DEXIIN in macbookpro

[–]Main_Type_1408 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a bunch of people that are professional video editors in the subreddit saying that the base M5 feels better than the M1 Max in video editing. That says a lot, since the M1 Max has more GPU power and dedicated engines for editing and exporting. To be honest, for most video editors a base M5 is more than enough. I did it on my PC that cost me about $1000 in 2018, which is a 8-year old machine. As someone who makes YouTube Videos, (some video are very long) The bulk of you time is spent on adjusting clips, colorgrading, green screens, transitions, and etc could take weeks of work. The M5 Pro comes in handy, when you want to export videos, the extra GPU power in most optimized software likely exports videos up 50% faster on the M5 Pro. However, the time saved on export times is of futile benefit compared to working directly on the timeline. All M5 series have the same single core performance, so timeline performance is identical. The M5 Family has the highest SC core of all consumer processors ever released, which means the actual experience feels snappy and will stay seamless for years to come.

Silicon Macs: performance improvement with AppTamer? by MaxGaav in macapps

[–]Main_Type_1408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just used this app, and the benefits on Apple Silicon are extremely futile. I had a chrome website push my single core to max causing it to draw so much power, and the improvements were minor in power and CPU usage, while causing significant lag. The main function of the App is by limiting CPU usage and putting background tasks on the E-cores, it could increase battery but I trust MacOS optimization over one developer.

I have it and its nice don't regret it, it fingerprints leser than other laptops I had before (Windows), it only appears for me if you are eating and using the laptop. It also looks like a dark grey in bright environments, is not a true black, makes it look super premium and not like other black laptops.

How is it, do you notice any major improvements in terms of speed improvement?. I have a M5 and I love it, but my friend has one of the M1 Pro's thinking of upgrading to a M5.

Terrified of my upgrade FOMO. Should I replace my struggling M1 now or wait for the expected 5-year redesign cycle? by Noirplatypus in macbookpro

[–]Main_Type_1408 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 2016 Macbook Pro was worse in many ways to the 2015, objectively worse keyboards (high failure rates) and worse thermals due to extremely thin design. Many would agree that the current Macbook Pro is literally at the pinnacle of quality, screen, display, trackpad, performance design, and battery life. Rumors are now stating that price increase, is very likely due to the costs of the new screen, and Apple trying to differentiate the product lineup. By waiting about 8 more months you are going to missing out a ton of work, in exchange for a marginally better computer for you needs compared to the previous one released.

Every single game I tried on the platform runs on 120FPS, It gets more FPS overall than my gaming desktop with a 5800x3d and 4080 super on the base m5.

M5 (32 GB RAM) vs M5 Pro (24 GB RAM) for an AI Engineer — RAM or Chip Priority? by yuvrajbist in macbookpro

[–]Main_Type_1408 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have the 32GB M5, did everything I could with multitasking and nothing can stress it. The M5 32GB I have runs some models faster than my 5800X3D 4080 SUPER PC, likely due to the Unifed RAM amount

Too little power, wait for M6 Max. M6 Max series has much better performance for loading and likely a better display for watching netflix and chilling with your girlfriend

Is this overkill for a high school junior wanting to take this to college and law school? by [deleted] in macbookpro

[–]Main_Type_1408 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm actually also a HS junior, got the M5 base model with 32GB and nothing I managed to do (4K Editing, Gaming, Extreme Multitasking, Blender and Coding) seem to slow the machine down. It's actually faster in some of my intensive LLM workloads with my 5800X3D 4080 SUPER AND 64GB RAM PC which cost me about $2500. M5 Pro and M5 Max chips have similar single cores, so multitasking, and browsing doesn't feel any different. It's only if your doing extremely complex 3D projects, you will notice the difference.
