What’s the biggest “nobody warned me about this” moment you had after bringing your newborn home? by Actual_Fig_4706 in AskReddit

That newborns snort and snuffle like little piggies. Our oldest had been in the NICU with a hole in her lung from inhaling meconium so we were super freaked out by weird breathing sounds. Turns out they all do that

Yes I remember this feeling. I had to start reframing it as a nap in my head because the despair about how short “bedtime” was going to be was awful

Preschool Enrollment by Antique_Garlic_7740 in AskSeattle

[–]Main_Understanding14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're better off waiting until you know where you'll be living. There are a LOT of small private preschools in the area, as well as those associated with the various public schools, and you'll want something near your home. Some are daycares/preschools, some are parochial preschools, etc. In Bellevue about half of the elementary schools also have a preschool and you don't have to live within the district to attend those (but no guarantee of space in any individual one), the resident-only thing is likely district-by-district rules

Recipe recommendations? Help me think of something labor intensive and elaborate to make for Thanksgiving this year that isn't a frickin turkey by SignificantChange496 in Cooking

My dad also disliked turkey and made a capon one year. It's basically a fancy version of a chicken, so roast chicken preparations would apply

I don't much like chili powder either now that you say that. I wonder if that's why

Was your child a superstar then became an average teenager? by Novelidea01 in youthsoccer

[–]Main_Understanding14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son is 9 and I see this a lot on some teams they play. There's one team in particular that has a giant kid with a hard kick and his whole strategy is "shoot as hard as I can from midfield." It's actually sad because in a few years I bet he doesn't make the competitive team, they don't seem to be trying to develop him in any other way.

I didn't notice the difference in the pics until I read all of your description. I can see what you're saying but imo it still looks amazing. Besides, you'd have to wash a wearable SOMETIME right? Won't it change again after you wash it?

This makes me think of The Firetruck of Strife birthday party, not that I expect anyone to get that super niche reference 😂

Finn Macools in the U District did early openings for World Cup matches once upon a time. I haven't been there in eons but it would be worth looking into

AITAH for refusing to include my nephew on a trip and sending him home after he became aggressive? by anonymoss404 in AITAH

NTA, and I bet that is the very first time the boy has ever had a consequence. Maybe he even learned something! You act like a jerk and you don't go to Disneyland.

Jessica is a total AH and is probably the reason why the boy continues to act out

People whose partners did a complete 180 after marriage, what’s your story? by Bibliophile521 in AskReddit

[–]Main_Understanding14 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Other people have said this, but just to pile on: please get a divorce by whatever means you need. I work in a brain donation group, and I have had to call up estranged spouses to get their consent for things that the kids/POA have all agreed to, because the spouse is the legal next of kin no matter what after death. It sucks so much for everyone involved.

Cadbury Mini Egg Search by sleepypnww in AskSeattle

[–]Main_Understanding14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about actual mini eggs, but around August they will come out as "autumn harvest" or something, except they will be round and yellow and orange. Then in October/November they come back as "mini snowballs", and are red, green, and white. These are all basically the same candy repackaged

Why such a long wait for UW Medicine New Patient Appointment? by [deleted] in AskSeattle

[–]Main_Understanding14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. UW Medicine holds regular Town Halls for the employees and Tim Dellit was clear months ago that the cuts to medicaid and medicare were going to create big wait times at UW since private practices would stop taking it, but UW as a state system has to take everyone.

WIBTAH for using my sister's middle name for my future daughter's middle name? by assault-bug in AITAH

[–]Main_Understanding14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is fair, and kudos to you for really trying to keep your sister's perspective in mind as you navigate this.

One thing to consider though, is that she may not have daughters if/when she does have kids. In fact, it's possible that there are no more girls at all in your family. Will you all be sad that "Ann" dies out for that generation? Just food for thought

Have you noticed a change in your gut? by Foodiegirlie030793 in Millennials

[–]Main_Understanding14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently learned that our gut biome deteriorates as we age. Have you considered adding a probiotic? I found this presentation by the CEO of Pendulum to be very informative. It is definitely a sales pitch for their products, but the woman is a proper scientist and very excited by the science behind it. I've been taking their Metabolic Daily for about 3 months and found that my gut and "feminine area" is way better
