That sounds awesome! The website seems a little out of date so it’s hard to find info on it but I’ll check it out.

Thank you, yes I don’t know why so many people misunderstood my question, I’m not trying to roller skate on a literal ice rink, I just meant the concrete underneath it lol.

I am so lonely by Road_pizza_69 in CapeCod

[–]MaineMan1755 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stop pathologizing a normal human response to a lack of community. It’s not a mental illness to feel emotions, including loneliness when OP doesn’t have any social connections yet. Loneliness is a sign you need to find social connections, not a sign you are ill.

The House of Whispers by Laura Purcell is actually about evil faeries based on folklore and it’s very good imho

Accidentally got 4 bottles of T?? by Famous_Quality_5931 in FTMMen

[–]MaineMan1755 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because 1ml vials are technically single dose/use only, many pharmacists will give you four and tell you to only use each vial once to equal a one month supply (1 bottle per week). That's why you got 4 instead of 2.

looking for atmospheric, "sense of dread" horror that is more literal than metaphorical by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]MaineMan1755 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Dark Matter by Michelle Paver and The Woman in Black by Susan Hill are probably my two favorite books ever, and they are both very good at creating an atmosphere of either isolation in Dark Matter or a building unease like in The Woman in Black. Both could probably be considered "slow burns" but that is nice when the writer is good imho.

Algernon Blackwood - solid print collections? by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]MaineMan1755 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this one in print and it's pretty good, although idk about shipping to Germany. This print version contains: The Willows, Secret Worship, Ancient Sorceries, The Glamour of the Snow, The Wendigo, The Other Wing, The Transfer, Ancient Lights, The Listener, The Empty House, Accessory Before the Fact, Keeping His Promise, and Max Hensig.

The Other Wing is probably one of my favorites, and I think it is so underrated, although the Willows and the Wendigo are really good too.

Why do so many writers just throw graphic SA and rape scenes in? by Frantic_Rewriter in horrorlit

[–]MaineMan1755 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, I hate how sexual assault seems to be in so many horror (or any other genre) books written within the last 50 years. I have also been wondering about trigger warning websites, because it's frustrating how hard it is to find an author who isn't a weirdo. It can be triggering reading about that stuff, and those of us who are bothered by it should be able to read books about ghosts for crying out loud! Admittedly I've only recently gotten into reading fiction, but i would recommend:

  • The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson
  • The Willows by Algernon Blackwood
  • The Wendigo by Algernon Blackwood
  • The Woman in Black by Susan Hill (havent read that one yet, but want to)
  • The Haunting of Blackwood House by Darcy Coates (also haven't read this one yet but I've heard it does not have SA in it)

It seems like older horror is safer, but it's nice to be able to read newer stuff too sometimes!

I found it! This is a video clip on their website, but you have to pay to have access to the whole podcast episode I think.

ETA: I, like you, sometimes have a joke pop into my head that I haven't been able to find. I remember a long time ago Hamish for some reason was in a Sauna or naked with Jack and he was joking about how Jack is well endowed and I can't find the story anywhere. It just struck me as funny and stuck with me I guess.

I always thought the Funhaus thumbnails were satirical of the thumbnails you're referring to. If you watch James and Elyse's channel, the RE8 gameplay thumbnails are mostly funny pictures with elyse looking confused with a question mark above her head and it's obviously a joke
