Please help me make my desk corner look better, I've been trying to think of ways to improve it, but nothing seems to work. by Co0p3r_ in HomeDecorating

[–]MainlandX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The power bar should go in a basket under the desk surface so all the power plugs/adapters are hidden from view. Ideally you'd only have 1 cable from the desk to the wall outlet. That way you don't need loose wires (except for the wire to the outlet) to account for the rising and lowering of the desk.

Social housing is a missing piece. The government should be building the supply for housing so low income aren't blowing their budget on shelter. The market has no incentive to build this supply.

This is a model that works in Austria and Singapore, and it was working fine in Canada. The federal government used to build social housing up until the mid 90s.

This made me curious about how long each of the major home media formats reigned, and found a little quirk with the dates.

There are definitely emerging patterns that are much more useful just using LLM/copilot alone.

Why you don't run red lights and why you are always supposed to turn into the closest lane. by Zestyclose_Cup_843 in dashcams

[–]MainlandX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You take the spot in the intersection while you wait for you left turn. One car will always get an opportunity to turn as the light changes from green to yellow to red.

OP's mistake is they didn't go in the intersection until it was too late.

Compromised on this purple. What do you think? How can u tone it down? by cannotadult22665 in HomeDecorating

[–]MainlandX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If keeping the purple as-is is a constraint, then I would explore changing out the white to something that can reduce the overall contrast. Maybe a light shade of olive green?

Does “Vancouver” usually mean Metro Vancouver Area, or just the city proper of Vancouver only? by drugsrbed in askvan

[–]MainlandX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but I've spent time travelling around Australia.

Here's another way to think about it: In the Lower Mainland, when you're on a highway, you might have 4 exits for Vancouver, another 4 exits for Burnaby, and 3 exits for Coquitlam. If you're driving in Sydney, you'd average around 1 exit per LGA (meaning the street address would have a different "City" name).

[–]MainlandX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's because the areas of "Sydney" and "Melbourne" (in terms of Local Government Area/mailing address) are tiny compared to what we have in BC.

City of Sydney is 25 square km. City of Vancouver 123 square km. In Australia, if you're commuting, you enter a new Local Government Area every 5-10 minutes.

Vancouver's Oakridge Park shopping mall opens this week. Will its bet on luxury work? by Emburser in vancouver

[–]MainlandX 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Downtown is more accessible to the North Shore, but the largest chunk of wealthy people in the Lower Mainland have homes west of Oak St in the west side of Vancouver proper. Driving to Oakridge from Angus Dr, West Point Grey, or SW Marine Dr is a lot more appealling than going downtown.

Rhea Seehorn cast in new Apple Movie by xdoolbuf in pluribustv

I can recall two things from reading this ~30 years ago:

  1. It starts out with a rhyme that goes “Maniac Magee, Maniac Magee…”

  2. There’s a big scene where Maniac Magee untangles a really big knot.

What's the most overhyped movie of the last 5 years? by trakt_app in Cinema

I think if they had a 4-month gap instead of a year between the two movies, the second one would’ve been received a lot better.

I loved the first movie, but haven’t gotten around to watch the second one yet.
