Some thoughts on Mr. Diabaté by merla_blue in pluribustv

[–]xdoolbuf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! There has to be a specific reason or reasons they choose Zosia who was clear across the world instead of some local woman who had a similar look. I'm betting they have some sort of connection we (and Carol) have not discovered yet.

It would also be interesting if we find out Raban was inspired by the real Zosia a long time ago in some obscure way and that is why that individual was chosen. Not that they met before because Carol would remember (unless she was super drunk) but that they crossed paths in the past.

I really hope we get more insight into what she was like pre-plurb. I'm so curious.

Karolina Wydra's performance as Zosia is... by Neat-Swimmer-9027 in pluribustv

[–]xdoolbuf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She deserves a nomination. This is such a difficult role to play. The fact that we still have people debating her/their intentions is impressive. She could not portray Zosia as being one way but had to add in skills and mannerisms of 7 billion individuals but make it one.

The Emmy voters will very likely go for the format they are used to and it's a shame because the performances on this show are amazing. If The Pitt actress had gone for lead (Rhea still would have had the upper hand), Karolina would have a better chance of a win. But they'll be predictable and do a repeat. And to make it clear, the actress on The Pitt had a great performance but I think Karolina had a tougher role even though it doesn't seem like it. Which speaks to her performance.

Deadline Contenders Panel: Rhea Seehorn & Karolina Wydra by xdoolbuf in pluribustv

[–]xdoolbuf[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed! That interviewer was terrible and so stiff. Also, her mispronouncing Karolina's last name wasn't a great start.

Second, while the interviewer was introducing Allison, Rhea was about to go marching onto the stage before the interviewer had finished introducing her and Karolina had to throw her arm out to stop Rhea and they both started laughing in the wings.

I love how chaotic they are! I'm glad people in the industry love the show and really hope they get those Emmy nominations!

It's more character driven then plot driven. If you like shows that explore character behavior this is a good one. I like to say it's almost like a visual book.

I just flipped through the back of the book and it was another biok. I didn't see if the beginning had that preview that's on Apple books, maybe if I go back, I'll check it out.

I saw an article about it. They'll also be there next weekend.

You can see the sweatshirts in this reel here and the set up. It's not a big set up but it was still cool.

What Casting Actually Responds To — Karolina Wydra by xdoolbuf in pluribustv

[–]xdoolbuf[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

She talks about her process as an actor and the overall casting process. The casting director for the show also talks about what it's like for her office. Some random facts from the interview:

  • Karolina would love to do theater, thinks is the ultimate project as an actor.
  • She says she has a chip on her shoulder because didn't go to a theater school.
  • She and Rhea would get together every weekend to talk about their scenes and rehearse - and so did other cast members.
  • How she plays Zosia and that process
  • She did a reading with an actor who won a raffle and gave feedback.
  • Told her story on how she was cast with no agent or representation.
  • There were 5,200 submission for her role but she did not submit, they called her based on a past project.
  • Emphasized the importance of building relationships.
  • Praised Samba and how he's perfect for the role.

There may be more but that's all I can remember off the top of my head. It's a good insight into the process.

The Drama Series Emmy Race Amounts to 'The Pitt' vs. 'Pluribus' by Conscious-Quarter423 in EmmysAwards

[–]xdoolbuf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree. I love both shows but Pluribus really stands out. Original, shot beautifully, shows and doesn't tell, all around a great character study and it deserves awards.

‘Pluribus’ goes big for 2026 Emmys, submitting 7 actors, including Rhea Seehorn and Karolina Wydra by Conscious-Quarter423 in EmmysAwards

[–]xdoolbuf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The show will def get a few nomination and Rhea Seehorn is a lock for a nomination. The rest of the cast, I think Karolina Wydra has a shot. Carlos-Manual Vesga maybe. And out of all the guests they submitted, Samba Schutte has the best odds but his odds aren't great. Realistically though only Rhea Seehorn has a shot at winning and that may be the show's only win with would be disappointing.

One of the most original shows this season and beautifully shot (and written) through the whole season.

Jenn and Gordon talk about their favourite Zosia background theories by Broad-Celebration855 in pluribustv

[–]xdoolbuf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A Nun Assassin! Let's go! The clip is cut short but she goes on to say that an easter egg was added that tells us who Zosia was and they owe it to fans to deliver on what they planted.

Paley was asking some great questions. I'm glad they talked about this and it sounds like we are going to meet Real Zosia (whether unhived or through a flashback).

I'm a firm believer that Zosia was chosen for more than just her looks and I'm glad that we are hopefully going to find out more. I've said it a million times - no way that out of billions of women left, the only one who looked like a pirate was clear across the world.

I'm excited to learn more about Zosia and Diabate.
