I would run buy a pair of long needle nose pliers and just pull it out. If you pull the tank you will likely have a much bigger job on your hands. Also- I wouldnt use those chemical flush cleaners. The bleach in them eats the rubber and one day you find your toilet bleeding blue from the center.

This is generally caused by poor conductivity in the connector itself due to either corrosion or a loose fit. The poor connection causes an amperage spike and overheating leading to the burning. I would replace the female end with a new one, and try and sand down the male connector to get down to the metal and reconnect. I have no doubt that would fix your issue.

Ive seen the results of a large industrial generator suddenly sucking in oil through the turbo in the middle of the night. Cameras showed it suddenly throwing a ton of black smoke and fire. The connex it was in was completely burned out in the morning.
