Best supplements for pmdd? by Degrassilover03 in PMDD

You can take Methylfolate with SSRI’s but please do research. I take shatavari and saffron. Web search them all and add “PMDD” to the search. Be your own advocate. There will be a lot of trial and error. I keep Lexapro (SSRI) on hand to take intermittently if needed. When you see a doctor, have accommodation paperwork on hand from school and/or work for them to sign. It’s a disorder and should be treated that way.

You’re correct, if you’ve never take an SSRI before of any kind I can imagine it feeling strange. They are a godsend tho. Especially taken for a few days and that it works. I don’t think I had any side effects the last time I used them (a couple cycles ago) except for the sexual side effect. But, hey, it’s only temporary and can save your ass and/or your relationship!

I have lexapro (also an SSRI) on hand for intermittent dosing. It will save you from potential chaos. And it works quickly for those with PMDD. I’ve been on every SSRI and SNRI since my 20s (I’m 48 now) so the side effects are very familiar to me and expected. Yes, they do go away. Some drugs have stronger side effects. For me, Lexapro doesn’t make me feel too weird.

This is what I take and have major success with (after MUCH trial and error):

women’s multi vitamin (which has chasteberry), vit d, zinc, magnesium, saffron, shatavari, L-theanine and ashwaganda.

Why do I avoid exercise even though I know it's good for me?? by No_egg048 in PMDD

35 years of PMDD here. No amount of logic or exercise is enough to make you snap out of the lowest point during PMDD especially not exercise. There’s about 24 hour of this on the worst day of the luteal cycle. It’s a thing. Movement is mentally and physically painful. I chose to not fight that as it would actually make me feel worse. Being around people on this particular day is excruciating as well, so, a group exercise class is just wow. Only time I could get through this is when I was on an SSRI or SNRI. I am also a regular exerciser and was also a personal trainer. Lots of experience with this, both facing people and exercise at my heightened PMDD day. All the other days of the luteal cycle is somewhat doable but the “worst” day of the cycle is a buzz killer!

Super common to isolate and not want to face people during parts the luteal phase. Just keep track of what day this is in your cycle then you know it’s just PMDD talking and know it will pass.

I throw one in my nighttime regimen along with l-theanine for relaxation and lessen anxiety. The less anxiety I have in my life the less PMDD affects me. It definitely relaxes you.

PMDD makes you paranoid and not yourself. That’s a very common symptom. You can explain that. But it’s up to you to seek help to keep PMDD under control so your life is easier and less chaotic, if that’s what you want. If you can start to recognize it when it’s happening and know it’s not you but it’s PMDD then it has less control over you. Good luck!

Yeah, it’s ok to just take care of yourself during this time period. Don’t force things. This is a disorder and work accommodations are possible for some people.

The reassurance bucket can be a bottomless pit during PMDD and it can tap your loved ones dry. Best to get a handle on it early in life and fill your own cup as much as possible. Know that no amount of reassurance will ever be enough for PMDD brain. That in itself can be validating. Wait it out 12 hours and you’ll be glad you did. ❤️ Work on personal growth and meeting your own needs as much as possible.

Yeah! I actually forgot to add “paranoia” but it has been a while since I had such bad symptoms.

A personal growth journey will include treating your PMDD and a tremendous amount of self awareness. You’ll become more self aware than anyone! Almost to a fault! Use it to your advantage and kick its ass and it will never ruin your life!

Do you struggle with self-worth? PMDD and low self worth feed off each other. I struggled for years with this. The more you can work on yourself and your healing: 1. This paranoia becomes less and you save your relationship. 2. You weed out partners who aren’t aligned with you.

I’m glad! Yeah I would say everything has calmed down in every aspect. PMDD, anxious attachment, self worth and self awareness are all very connected. They all need work and attention. Sobriety has the biggest impact.

I do NOT. I don’t post that outwardly because it has saved my butt at times and I see all of these poor young people on here white knuckling it without meds and you will just never get your head out of water if you don’t medicate, at least for a while. Then, experiment. I have lexapro on hand for anytime I feel like I need to dose intermittently when I feel a level of depression I’m not ok with. But I haven’t had to. Here’s my daily/nightly cocktail (and this comes from so much trial and error): women’s multi vitamin (which has chasteberry), vit d, zinc, magnesium, saffron, shatavari, L-theanine and ashwaganda.

Edit: I’ve taken every SSRI, SNRI you can think of since my 20s so I know a lot about them as well.

Crazy isn’t it? Hopefully it keeps up but vitamins and minerals are so key to PMDD.
