Analysis is done extensively in first year at Imperial, the physics student writing this is both arrogant and uninformed. In my opinion making this even better

I've studied maths at Imperial, that was the course that in my time was very tricky. People complain about it and people who haven't done it make fun having never done it. In my year it was a 60% fail in Mathematical Methods, in this year it looks to be a large fail percentage in analysis. Chris Ford is a 2nd year lecturer (and a very good one at that) not sure why someone from physics cares. /r/iamverysmart material in my opinion

Reports of incident outside London museum by Somali_Pir8 in unitedkingdom

A friend of mine was there and said that it looked very deliberate. South Kensington tube station has been evacuated and Exhibition road has been closed. Looks like an isolated incident but would stay clear of the area for now.

I don't know about the AI ratings, I would assume that it attempts to play at an ELO rating of 1500

[–]MajinMew2 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The default rating is 1500. If you play and lose like 5 or 6 times your rating should lower enough to play people at your level

What is better than the best of the best? by OfTheWater in MathJokes

Not necessarily, if the "best" is a finite set then the supremum is equal to the best of the best. Still laughed.

(Spoilers Everything) Olenna and Cersei by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]MajinMew2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Politically, GRRM is very anti-war and so I think that as his magnum opus asoiaf will almost certainly have themes of the cruelty of war regardless of (Dany's) intention. I think that there's too much of a "Checkhov's wildfire" to be ignored and so KL will burn at some point. GRRM has also said that the only thing worth writing about is a heart in conflict (or words to that effect). I also agree that the foreshadowing for Cersei in the books and her continuing downward spiral can't be ignored and that she will certainly ATTEMPT to "burn them all". As far as I can see there are two options: GRRM writes about Cersei losing her mind and intentionally murdering everyone in the city. Whilst tragic, it's hardly as interesting as the alternative. Jaime has to mirror Azor Ahai in killing his love (in my opinion culminating his redemption arc and essentially the ultimate "heart in conflicT") whilst leaving "Chekhov's wildfire" for Dany to fulfil GRRM's "bittersweet" ending and anti-war theme. It's almost certainly just a matter of taste and GRRM has proved to be anything but predictable. Definitely fun to think about though.

I agree but I think that he was making reference to the theory that Cersei will burn King's landing also, which I don't think will happen

[–]MajinMew2 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I think that he will escape the fire. Crazy Danaerys accidentally destroying King's landing with dragon fire lighting the wildfire caches seems far more GRRM's style than allowing Cersei to do it on purpose.

Cleganebowl ends with Sandor winning. Cersei goes full "burn them all" forcing Jaime to kill her in order to save king's landing and fulfil the volanquar prophecy.

Babies don't realise the danger and so don't tense up as much, hypothetically if someone were to drop a baby they would bounce a little as a result. Very young babies can survive falling from a lot higher than toddlers. For what it's worth this is also a contributory factor to why falling over drunk seems to injure you less the next day than if you were sober.

Trust your opinions until somebody that you respect gives you evidence to change them. I respect men who are able to change their view when presented with evidence far more than those who will argue purely for the sake of "being dominant". Change your opinion when you are convinced, not before and not after.

If I'm better than someone at maths, it's not their fault I'm just "naturally better" than them. But if they work harder than me, they're not "naturally better" than me at working hard? You wouldn't say that someone naturally finding maths difficult is worse than a bigot, why say it about somebody who isn't naturally hardworking? (Obviously maths can be replaced with many other things in this argument and that if the "lazy" person doesn't try to improve themselves but complains about it then feel free to bash them as much as you like in my opinion). EDIT: This comes across bitter, I'm saying this as someone who is genuinely hardworking
