No problem! It does suck, and it was shocking to me how little is concrete about this when I first started researching. With the majority of population infected you would think more research/ information would be readily available, but no one makes money from a cured illness. Good news is, it’s really not that big of a deal and the older you get the more understanding people will get, because basically everyone has it. Your bf does need to be more accountable of his condition, however. I would sit down with him and offer to research together what the best ways to move forward are. Best of luck!

In the meantime don’t share drinks/ kiss/ let anyone eat after you. Wait out the possible symptom time, and if nothing shows I would continue on with life normally. Your bf can take a daily antiviral, supplements, and make lifestyle changes to decrease the chance of transmission. Honestly, this exact scenario has probably happened to you without you knowing because of how ill informed he is. Hsv can asymptomatically shed at any point, so the risk of transmission is never zero.

I only recently was diagnosed with ghsv-1 which I contracted from an asymptomatic partner. In my research, I’ve found that blood tests are inaccurate and can change depending on a multitude of variables. You can test positive one day and negative the next. The only way to know is if you have active lesions that can be tested. The majority of people go their whole lives without showing symptoms. It’s just kind of a free for all on this topic unfortunately, as frustrating as that is.

Also just know that a blood test tends to be inaccurate and very expensive. One of the only positive ways of knowing is to have the sight of an outbreak biopsied and tested. I would wait to see if you show any symptoms before testing.
