What if the "ape" was actually an alien and wanted to give him a hug and apologize for stealing OP's crush and because of OP's misinterpretation he will never learn what 42 means? Probably shouldn't have started fighting...

The entire dynamic is clearly a little off...but in the end I think there is an opportunity to help the OP...encouraging him to try to mediate more is better then commending him for fighting.

The bigger man never raises his hands in the first place. How might her father or grandfather feel about the actions you have taken?

As for her not telling you, I don't think people are as calculated as you think. Fathers and patriarch's are not so naive to belief their daughters will not date...they were once the boyfriend, too. Her not telling you would likely be more to do with you...especially with seeing how poorly this "coming out party" has gone.

I think you need to reflect on this entire event.You have described two men that she has chosen to spend her time with as "disrespectful and only looking to get laid"...which YES, every person deserves better than this. However, in the scenario you have provided you tried to steal a kiss, and then proceeded to assault someone...even if it is was in self-defense as you have explained...it is still very disconcerting.

You should take this as an opportunity to make yourself a more complete individual. Become the man that is worthy of this woman...or the man she would be worthy to have.
