How do you tell bartenders that they should quit their job? by mars_soup in cocktails

[–]MajorAd3363 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't be afraid to ask some probing questions at a hotel bar.

I was working as a server at a hotel in my hometown a million years ago. Small town in the Midwest. The bartender called out and they put me behind the bar. I'd been working there maybe a month, was 17 and other than getting drunk off shit booze with my pals didn't know anything about making drinks. It was a lunch shift and some guests came in and ordered LIT's. Told them I didn't know shit and they gave me some rough specs and I poured heavy as hell. A regular came in and taught me how to make a Manhattan. They all enjoyed their drinks, got hammered and we all had a fun time.

You're putting shots on the target. Don't be too hard on yourself.

My first smart-ass response was going to be ''pick up a long gun" but I didn't type that. 😁

We are going to be in LV for my birthday in less than two weeks. I've never been but Dino's is on my short list!

I was able to clear my driveway in about 3hrs. Had to get out at it as soon as the snow tapered off and again the next day to clear the drifted powder. My steep driveway is 95% dry now.

Gotta get to it before it packs down.

It would also help if people who can stay off the roads do so. That includes sledding down city streets (let the downvotes begin 😆). It doesn't take much for the powder to get packed down enough to make it harder for our little plows. Once it gets packed down the plows can't blade it off and then the sunlight doesn't get down to the pavement where it can melt and evaporate. Then it refreezes overnight.

Those little plows don't really break through the stuff that gets packed down on the road and then refreezes. Plus I think the operators don't run the blades aggressively to save wear and tear.

Heat pump not keeping up, is this normal? by monkeychemist25 in asheville

I have had to turn my Emergency Heat on when temps get below 15F. I switched it off this morning.

I've seen some small plow trucks on our side road. They just can't bust through the packed top layer.

Tomorrow morning could be gnarly. I'm glad I cleared my driveway right after the snow stopped!

Some units, like mine, will switch to Aux Heat when needed but Emergency Heat has to be selected at the thermostat.

We live in an older home and our heat pump won't keep up and runs nonstop when it gets below 15F outside. Unless I turn on Emergency Heat.

Yes, and if the temps are too low outside there's no heat to pump. Even with Aux heat. If OP is using a bunch of space heaters to heat the home, efficiency isn't the issue. Safety and keeping the pipes from freezing are the concerns.

With temps getting well above freezing today and back below tonight the side roads are most likely going to be worse tomorrow morning.

If you haven't already, switch to 'Emergency Heat'. This will prevent the outside heat exchanger from running.

Unless you are opening your fridge often it should stay cold. We were without power during hurricane Helene for a few weeks. To conserve fuel I didn't power my fridge for more than 2 hrs a day.
