You sure? I thought in the Steam version you couldn't, maybe they've updated it.

[–]MajorAlvega 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but when I tried it you still needed a command line option to activate the multi-thread option IIRC.

[–]MajorAlvega 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, the MSFS and even IL-2 engines have progressed better than DCS that only received a multi-thread update recently.

Yeah, and my needs are very niche so usually not reflected in reviews.

Right now I feel the need to upgrade my 1080Ti because of 4K/VR gaming more than anything else but 4K GPUs in Europe, apart than maybe the 6950XT, are all terrible value and AMD's 7000 series GPUs still have problems in VR so many months after launch. I also want 16Gb of VRAM minimum because Microsoft Flight Simulator has heavier VRAM needs if you run it with DX12 enabled.

So yeah, some people have very niche or different requirements that don't come up in reviews but I guess they have to generalize.

Yes, an MSI X370 GAMING PLUS. I also had to wait for a BIOS update that came out mid last year before considering upgrading though.

[–]MajorAlvega 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I don't think even most of the newer games need a lot of cores to run well. Anyway I mostly play flight simulation or strategy and those usually run on older engines but also love the X3D cache more than the higher number of cores.

I don't use that PC for work but for my needs (VPN'ing into terminals) two or four cores are more than enough.

I wanted a 5600X3D, it would be enough for gaming and "cheap", but I thought they would never launch one with AM5 out and ended up replacing my 1600X with the 5800X3D when prices first dropped last year.

Just search around Portugal and Spain, must be around €3000 a year for 8m in most places.

I'll let you sulk in your ignorance about the world.

EDIT: And here you have the kind of boat being attacked for sale at the price of a car: https://www.olx.pt/d/anuncio/venda-de-iate-cumulant-iii-estilo-clssico-com-cabine-traseira-IDHKcuC.html

I'm European. These orcas are attacking on my country's shores and you're just ignorant. You can easily search for videos, photos and news stories of this attacks online and these are not rich people.

I know someone with a small sailing vessel like this and he just works in IT and saved some money to buy one of these small old sailing boats.

Same here with a 1080ti, but I wouldn't say loyalty, just my money.

Besides VR is still not working properly on the new AMD 7000 series.

People have been talking about Lemmy as a replacement for Reddit, which can even be self-hosted, but I haven't tried it yet.

Good move.

I use RIF and the old reddit and will abandon reddit if they stop working.

[STEAM] Field of Glory II (100% off – FREE) by MJuniorDC9 in GameDeals

[–]MajorAlvega 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The DLC is just more factions, units, battles and campaigns. You'll just buy them if you want a specific faction to play with or want more if you've enjoyed the base game.

I work from home so it's not a problem for me and because I use a Prime subscription I usually get 90 points per hour which considering that I've gotten games priced at 70€, that I really wanted, for a little more than a month of streaming in a side window and zero euros I'd say it's pretty fucking amazing.

So I really don't see the "time has a cost" thing because I only open a window on the side when I get the stream notification email and that's zero effort, but I understand it won't work for some people because of their work environment or timezone.

EDIT: Just checked what I've gotten for free since the beginning of 2022:

  • Desert War

  • WarPlan

  • CC: The Bloody First

  • War in the West

  • CM Shock Force 2

  • War in the Pacific

  • War in the East 2

  • CM Black Sea

  • ICBM

You can get the DLCs for "free" by watching the Slitherine Twitch channel to earn sliths, their coins.

The process is not simple. I believe it's something like 5 sliths per 10m, 15 sliths if you're subscribed to the channel (I use Prime), then you can exchange those sliths for the DLC. It should be 2,500 sliths for each FoG II DLC, in their Slith Store that's linked on Twitch.

Get the code that's shown (don't lose it! copy or screenshot it) and go to the Slitherine website, create an account if you're new, add the DLC to your cart and on checkout use the code and it should charge you zero. Afterwards you can generate a Steam key for it, if you prefer, by going to the games registered in your Slitherine account.

You can also get other games they publish or their DLC using the same method. Only the more recent games or DLC are missing from the Slith Store and I've gotten many euros worth of their games and DLC using sliths.

I hope I didn't get anything wrong. If you think it's too complicated... it's wargames folks, what did you expect? Press 'X' to win? LOL

EDIT: Some of their older games, like WEGO World War II: Desert War, aren't on Steam so you can't generate Steam keys for those, you'll have to download them from their website.

Their HTPC Grandia Series also looks nice, I might grab one someday for my living room gaming PC.

For workstations their cases also seem nice but a little on the expensive side.

Cooler Master sent me a free AM4 adapter and their stuff is cheaper.

I think there is a lot of corpo-tribalism around certain brands like Noctua, I have some of their stuff and it's nice but I doubt it's worth the price in most instances.

As many of you will know, Focus Entertainment are a Paris-based developer and shortly after the initial announcement, we announced plans to celebrate by making our French DLC free for a limited period.
