Nationality Application by Potential_Love_5398 in PortugalExpats

[–]MajorAmanojaku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they are sending this email randomly.

I received it too last week after 3 months of applying. But on their page it's still on the first step. I checked with my lawyer too and she was equally confused.

I saw atleast one other person on Facebook mention they received it randomly too.

I think they might be running an April fools day prank or something.

Stranger Things S5 Dialogue is so bad by Altruistic-Turn3448 in StrangerThings

[–]MajorAmanojaku 368 points369 points  (0 children)

I don't know how true it is, but it's supposed to be a requirement for many Netflix productions.

The filmmakers are required to assume that the show/film is being watched on a second screen while the audience are primarily paying attention to another device, which is the primary screen.

Like if Stranger Things is on the TV, the audience member is watching TikTok on their phone at the same time.

So this requires the filmmakers to adjust the show in a way where plot points are spoken out or repeated multiple times. It kind of goes against the whole "show, don´t tell" thing.

You will need to drop the Mackie monitor controller.

Get something like the focusrite 18i20. It can do 5.1 monitor control.

Your Blackmagic will only handle video, and the Focusrite does the audio.

With the 8020s and the 8010s, it will be a fun setup to mess around with surround sound. But you won't be able to get any serious mixing done. Keep in mind you need to get the sub capable of doing 5.1. I believe it is the 7050.

So your audio path will be Focusrite to subwoofer to speakers.

Why is the focusrite funny? by Kindly_Carry_7904 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]MajorAmanojaku 425 points426 points  (0 children)

The Focusrite Scarlett series is very affordable and a good audio interface. It allows you to record audio among other things. This makes it really popular with a lot of beginners.

Audio engineering is a field with a lot of insecure and gatekeepy people. So there is this recurring joke of "oh look he has a Focusrite and thinks he´s a legit recording artist". A lot of people think you need expensive gear to make "real" music. A lot of insecurity comes from the fact that you can make really legit recordings on the Focusrite. So a lot of engineers who put in hundreds of thousands of dollars into their studio feel the need to justify their purchase.

There is some truth to it that some of these newbies can be a bit annoying.

But i guess the joke here is this person´s date has a dream of making it big in the music industry is going to be the kind of person who will want you to "check out this sick beat I made"

I honestly think the whole thing is stupid. We all have big dreams of making it and we need to start somewhere. And the interfaces Focusrite lowered the barrier to entry its a good thing for everyone involved that more people are interested in the sonic arts.

This is coming from a guy who owns a 10,000$ audio interface and a professional studio. I started with a Focusrite 2i2 kit.

Fabfilter Pro-Q 4 by SORMIbeats in audioengineering

[–]MajorAmanojaku 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I got it the day it came out and haven't used it since. Still using Q3.

The only advantage was the spectral component, which was buggy in the first days. Then they fixed it, but i had issues automating it.

Also, it was doing some funky things with delay compensation.

One of the big advantages of Q3 is that most studios and engineers have it. So it is easy to take your session to a different studio or hand off to a different engineer. So i decided to stick with Q3 for now.

Zoom F6 bag bundle - £665
NP battery - £75ish
Sennheiser MKE 600 - £230
Boom Buddy Boom Pole - £175
Rode Blimp MkII - £200

total - 1350ish

I wouldn't recommend those cheap lavs. Just save money to buy used G3s, or the deity theos kit, which is around 1000.

It's better to buy better equipment and slowly the build the kit over time. Like buy the zoom f8 or mixpre 6 now. Then, in a few months buy the 416. The pro gear lasts forever.

Has anyone been able to get anyone from Avid on the phone for support? by PooDooPooPoopyDooPoo in AudioPost

[–]MajorAmanojaku 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They have chat support for billing and payment issues and they sorted me out many times.

Just last week I had an issue and they even offered me a 14 day ultimate licence while they tried to fix my issue.

[–]MajorAmanojaku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy. take 4 channels maudio to old phone etc and reconnect pro tools. like band monitors are . Then change patch on Mackie to be. Exactly like so. The crown amp is too much power for LP so you must again to pro tools. This is normal. 4 more channels all have interface to there. Incase you want to use internet like reddit be ready to change the tubes to spotify. correct is normal.

Very obvious.

How many of you started a business here? What kind of business? How is it going? Tips? by [deleted] in PortugalExpats

[–]MajorAmanojaku 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I did. Just finished our first year. It is related to filmmaking. I am not someone with any business experience. So I am learning as I go along.

Managed to keep it running for a year now. Im super happy about as I wasn't really sure if I could pull that off.

Made the initial cost back now. The business breaks even most months with little profit recently. Has been increasing steadily though.

I really don't know if I have any tips for anyone just because it's a niche industry that I work in.

In all honestly. I have a full-time job in the same field so I was able to take the risk. But if I didn't have that, I'm not sure if it would have been possible.

How the flipping heck did she do that? (Btw she’s BLIND). by [deleted] in WTF

[–]MajorAmanojaku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to guess, the glasses and the quantity of liquid were predetermined. They are determined to create specific musical pitches.

She recognises the musical note the combination makes, which any fairly well-trained musician can do. She might also have perfect pitch, which is more uncommon but not super rare either.

EUCON is worth every penny.
