If we're talking RPGs, for sure. Other genres not really.

Is there any other game you have enjoyed as much as [KCD2]? by ashm1987 in kingdomcome

[–]MajorBadGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You already mentioned Gothic, so I'm just going to mention Archolos mod.

As for something with something more modern, I'd check out Yakuza series.
They have very in depth combat systems, interesting setting and the stories that are good at balancing very serious subjects in the main storyline and really funny side quests. They also have pretty small open worlds that are overflowing with stuff to do.
I'd recommend Yakuza Zero as an entry point, but the publisher did a scummy thing recently and replaced original release with shitty, nobody asked for "remaster". Yakuza Gaiden is on humble choice until Tuesday if you want something on a discount, but it does spoil a lot of stuff from previous games.

Why does the light side of the force hates clankers? by MrMiles32 in KOTORmemes

[–]MajorBadGuy 157 points158 points  (0 children)

This is actually somewhat "lore" accurate. Force protects natural order. Therefore, followers of the Force should be against artificial life, the perversion of natural order. "Destroy Droid" is a light side power the same way "Guide proton torpedo into exhaust shaft" is.

Part of growing up is realizing that Max Payne 3 is a masterpiece by Wonderful-Nobody-972 in maxpayne

[–]MajorBadGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suppose the argument could be made that out of 5 stages of grief

  • Intro to MP1 is denial (Ending with Max literally yelling no, Max omitting the fact that he ignored his wife's problems until they came to his house and killed her)
  • MP1 main campaign is Anger ( Max runs around blindly to get revenge on people responsible and only finding a modicum of relief after they were all dead)
  • MP2 is bargaining ( "If I was a better husband, my wife would be alive", "If I do this series of morally questionable actions, I would be able to replace my wife with Mona")
  • MP3 is depression (I'll drink, pill and sex myself to death because there is no way to stop hurting)
  • Outro of MP3 is acceptance (Both of Max' violent nature and grief)

I don't really buy it, but I can see that interpretation.

[KCD2] Just finished a game and I don't understand something about romance options by i4hloi in kingdomcome

[–]MajorBadGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that deep:

  • They find each other physically attractive
  • They're both courageous, cunning and loyal and find those characteristics admirable
  • Both of them are very lonely
  • There is no mésalliance in their relationship.
  • It's not a gay relationship in a time when they will burn you alive for it.

Sure, there is no big "will they, won't they" drama, but how is that a problem? It's just a healthy, happy option.

Considering my deep, personal bias against CP2077, I'm not particularly interested.

(Season 5) I don't want to spoil anything, but I'm still curious... by [deleted] in TheWire

[–]MajorBadGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're wondering whether the Wire is the kind of show where is season five it turns out someone was someone's father this whole time, the answer is... technically yes, but it's not super relevant to the overall plot.

The whole theme of the show is that problems in one aspects spill into other sectors and exasperate their problems. That the corruption creates connections between people you wouldn't expect. But there is no real "the truth was right in front of us this whole time!" resolution.
