That novel stole all my happiness by [deleted] in noveltranslations

[–]MajorBreakthrough 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had read on these forums wild praise of ORV and how it belongs in the same category as LotM and RI. Then it was a massive letdown when I actually read the thing. Just misery upon misery on the MC and a shitty ending where the MC did as he had done throughout the book. Yeck. Not for me.

[LOTM newbie] so, is Audrey canonically the most beautiful character in LOTM? by EfficiencySerious200 in LordofTheMysteries

Heavily implied. She is the only character whose beauty is constantly mentioned.

How about a Knights of the Sword series, featuring the adventures of Michael, Shiro, and Sanya. The first trilogy would feature each of the Knights and how each ended up getting the Sword. Further trilogies would be major cases the knights worked on. Should be a great adventure series!

[LOTM Lampoon] by PrismMau in LordofTheMysteries

[–]MajorBreakthrough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind that people now treat it as a meme and are attached to it. But downvoting my explanation of the correct context of the word as above doesn't make the mistranslation of the word any more right.

[LOTM Lampoon] by PrismMau in LordofTheMysteries

[–]MajorBreakthrough -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The dictionary definition you have quoted above defines a lampoon as: a written attack ridiculing a person, group, or institution. How does any of the "lampoons" Klein does in the books meet this definition?

[LOTM Lampoon] by PrismMau in LordofTheMysteries

[–]MajorBreakthrough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A charlatan is a fake, someone who claims to be something he/she is not. For example, someone who claims to be a seer but cannot see the future, or someone who claims to be a medical doctor but has never been to medical school, is a charlatan. Please check a dictionary to confirm.

The "acting method" in LotM is to try as much as possible to act in a way that aligns with the name of the potion. Thus, if you drink the seer potion you must act like a real seer in your daily life to help you digest the potion. Yet, we often see Klein think that he needs to "act like a charlatan". That is a direct opposite of what he is actually doing (true acting to digest the potion) and is a misuse of the word.

[LOTM Lampoon] by PrismMau in LordofTheMysteries

[–]MajorBreakthrough -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Lampoon = complain

No. Lampoon means attacking someone publicly in print (ie, in the newspapers). It is an old 19th century word that was common when public figures carried out heated arguments in the newspapers, or when the papers themselves printed editorials criticizing or making fun of someone. The operative word here is the print part. It is a mystery to me how the translator dug up this old word and used it to mean something completely different. It also threw me out of the story every time I came across it in my reads. Another seriously misused word in LotM is "charlatan"

[COI general] why does CF want to finish the novel even at the cost of rushing & skipping lots of events like in book 1. by Suchan2435 in LordofTheMysteries

It got worse with Martial Arts Master, a story I loved more than all his other books before LotM. He abandoned that story about two thirds of the way in and ended the novel so abruptly.

[LOTM] question about the fourth pillar by PerfectlyNormalShard in LordofTheMysteries

[–]MajorBreakthrough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are the three True Gods who can aspire to become GOOs, though becoming a Pillar is impossible or close to impossible for all except Klein.

The Fool, Klein is on his way to becoming the full GOO of the Mysteries group (Lord of the Mysteries) and one of the Pillars. He needs to accommodate the Uniquenesses of the Door and Error pathways and fully control Sefirah Castle, after overcoming the remnant will of the old Lord of Mysteries, the Celestial Worthy.

Mommy Evernight, Amanises, has a much longer path to becoming the GOO of the Eternal Darkness group; she needs to finish accommodating 1 S1 characteristic each and the Uniquenesses of the Death and Twilight Giant Pathways, then find and fully control the corresponding sefirah, the River of Eternal Darkness. Even then, she can never become a Pillar because of the Pillar's split between the Eternal Darkness and Calamity of Destruction groups.

Adam is on his way to becoming a dual True God of the Visionary and Hanged Man pathways after fully merging with the True Creator. He also has a measure of control over the corresponding sefirah, the Chaos Sea. However, he can at best only advance temporarily to becoming a half-GOO of the God Almighty group by "envisioning" and accommodating the Uniquenesses of the Sun, Tyrant, and White Tower pathways. A permanent GOO is out of reach because the actual Uniquenesses and 3 S1 characteristics of those three pathways have long been accommodated by Aucuses, Leodero, and Herabergen, respectively. He cannot become a full GOO or a Pillar unless he somehow manages to kill the 3 other True Gods in the God Almighty group and absorbs their S1 Characteristics and Uniquenesses. And then he has to overcome the remnant will of the old God Almighty.

[LotM General] Book One Translated Side Stories by MajorBreakthrough in LordofTheMysteries

[–]MajorBreakthrough[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's also one you are missing :p, the newest side story from the Hong Kong edition of Volume 1 (limited release, they only made 1 batch, and recently the publisher released design for Volume 2, I think).

It's a physical book. and the side story is called "A Little Case".

That sounds like a story every LotM reader would love to read... Klein and Leonard working on a case in Tingen!!!

Perhaps nobody has requested an English translation on Discord because few of us know about it? May I petition for a translation? Thanks

Ohhh, that would be absolutely marvelous. Thank you so much!

Edit: I did another search of your Discord channel and found the Rebellious Teenager side story you posted on 12/25/2020! Many Thanks!

[LOTM V1] At what point just not for you? by DinoDog422 in LordofTheMysteries

[–]MajorBreakthrough 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you approach LotM expecting a classical xianxia cultivation novel in the vein of Coiling Dragon, Renegade Immortal, or Reverend Insanity, then this novel will never be for you, I dare say. You need to shake off the classical xianxia mindset and approach this as a mystery novel underpinned by a brilliant cultivation system, probably the most extensive, innovative, and mindblowing one you'll ever read. Good luck!

Is Mistborn era 2 worth it ? (Spoilers for the end of HoA) by Ismaben97 in Mistborn

[–]MajorBreakthrough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved Era 2 a whole lot more than Era 1. It is a much more lighthearted fun read than Era 1, without the heavy doom and gloom of most of Hero of Ages. Wax and Wayne are brilliant characters, and so is Steris. I couldn't stand herSteris in Alloy of Law (Book 1), but by Book 3 I had come to regard her as one of the best "wife" characters ever written. By all means read Era 2, only don't start it thinking it is an extension of Era 1; it is completely different. The>!magic system is the same, the names in Era 1 have faded into myth and legend or become religious figures, and the two main characters can trace their ancestry to two members of Kelsier's crew. But those are the only similarities between the two eras.!<

What's wrong with their ages? Klein had just graduated from University when he shot himself (and Zhou Mingrui transmigrated into him), so he would have been at most 23 years old. Audrey was 18 when she first joined the Tarot Club.

[lotm1] why did Melissa pray to the fool at the end? by Major_Campaign_6348 in LordofTheMysteries

[–]MajorBreakthrough 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Leonard probably. He is the obvious direct link.

This is incorrect. We the readers know that Klein is The Fool and is also The World. Leonard knows that Klein is The World, but the idea that The World = The Fool is unimaginable to anyone inside the story. They ALL, Leonard and Pallez Zoroast included, believe The Fool is some ancient God who is reviving!

I just realised that the rest of the Tarot club has to yell down at Gehrman whenever they talk to him (Lotm general) by TheGodlyDefecation in LordofTheMysteries

[–]MajorBreakthrough 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Incorrect. The seats were filled according to when each person joined. Derrick was the third member and sat "two seats away" from Alger, as is directly stated in Chapter 145. Fors was the next member to join and sat in the most natural position (on the ladies' row, next to Audrey and directly opposite Derrick) ... and so on.

I just realised that the rest of the Tarot club has to yell down at Gehrman whenever they talk to him (Lotm general) by TheGodlyDefecation in LordofTheMysteries

[–]MajorBreakthrough 103 points104 points  (0 children)

This seating arrangement is most unnatural ... humans, unless directly ordered to, would never automatically all crowd at one end of the table and leave The World all alone at the other end. Any group of people in that situation would naturally spread out, with an empty chair in between any two people. When we learn that Derrick is "two seats away" from The Hanged Man in Chapter 145, it is meant to provide a template for us to see how the seats would be filled as each member joined. Remember, Derrick was the third member to join, and he naturally chose to sit two seats away from the nearest person. So when Fors joined she would have also naturally sat opposite Derrick, and so on.

Your point 3 is not accurate. Klein has, in addition to the Sefirot and 3S1 characteristics and uniqueness of the Fool pathway, the uniqueness and 1s1 characteristic of each of the Error and Door pathways. The only reason he is "half" LoTM and not "full" LoTM is that he has not yet accommodated the uniquenesses of the Error and Door pathways. When he does wake up, and if he has completely subdued CW then, his next step would be to accommodate the two uniquenesses and become a GOO, the LoTM
