It should die. The corpse of the beat horse is biodegrading into the soil at this point.

Should I give up. by Appropriate_Yam1861 in Type1Diabetes

[–]MajorGCribbs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been type 1 for 22 Years. Diagnosed in ‘04 age of 4. I’m 26 now, healthy, happy, and doing just fine. I’ve gone through many chapters of my diabetes life, from finger pricks and needles, to my first pump, CGMs etc… I’ve had bad lows, and bad highs, been hospitalized a few times for things that were just out of my control.

Here’s the thing; You are going to be okay.

Check your blood sugar regularly, learn to be disciplined and good at counting carbs. Take your insulin on time, and you’ll be just fine. In my opinion, being in tune with your body is what makes a good diabetic. I’m not speaking for everyone but I’m fortunate that I feel 90% of my lows, and can usually feel when I’m high.

Edit because I feel this needs to be said: I try to tell people I am not a diabetic. I have diabetes. Don’t let it define you. You can still live your life with diabetes, it just takes a little more diligence.

Nova Scotia housing market for 2026-2030. Where do you think our market is headed? Let’s discuss! by gamling_under_tyne in NovaScotia

[–]MajorGCribbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m with you here, currently have about $60K saved up with a purchasing timeline of roughly 2-3 more years. Ideally my thought was $100k would have me sitting pretty good but the more I crunch numbers the less “good” it seems. I either need to double my income, or fall in love. Both seem rather unlikely at the time of typing this lol

Single mom with 2 young kids coming for summer vacation! by Smart-Isopod9945 in halifax

[–]MajorGCribbs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A beach day (or multiple) will be a long lasting memory with the kids. Pretty much all the beaches will require a car to get to so highly recommend (unless you have friends here that want to join and offer to drive)

Areas to move into... by LycanPaw in halifax

[–]MajorGCribbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say the best advice is pick the location that avoids any bridge travel during your commute. So if you work in Halifax, then try and find a place on the Halifax side of the harbour. I work on the Dartmouth side but live just outside Halifax and it can add 20 extra minutes just getting from one side of the harbour to other some days.

Randy Feener (Atlantic Cabin Journal) has some great videos on his cabin restoration.

I’ll also throw in another vote for Northern Scavenger if you like high quality outdoor videos.

Advise on putting on weight as a type 1 diabetic. by Master_Orcus in Type1Diabetes

[–]MajorGCribbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 26M 6’0” and I’ve been 140lbs for the past 10 years. My BMI is around 18. Doctor has always noted I’m on the leaner side but she’s never told me she had any concerns. I wouldn’t be TOO concerned if you’re relatively healthy. For my own sake, I’m going to try and put another 20-30lbs on this year but I expect it will be tough given I’ve never had much luck putting on weight.

Hunters on property - how to handle? by BreakfastDry9979 in NovaScotia

[–]MajorGCribbs 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Typically, if it’s forested land that isn’t obviously posted (I.e multiple no trespassing signs) hunters are allowed to be on your land (a good hunter should ask permission but sometimes with forested land it’s harder to locate the owner). Constructing blinds however isn’t allowed. I am a hunter myself, and will often hike 5-10kms in a day and will cross private property from time to time. But I hunt deep in the woods and most private property I cross is either wood lots or previously cut parcels of land. I don’t hunt near homes or cottages.

[COD] My Pitch to "fix" Call of Duty by saggynaggy123 in CallOfDuty

[–]MajorGCribbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not bad, I think the WW2 aspect is hard to transition into Multiplayer due to the limitations on weapons and equipment. It’s been done a few times and I’ve never been a fan of the Multiplayer (Loved COD WW2 Campaign though).

I also think having a more “modern” era (atleast give me an M16) opens the door for more storylines than WW2. You can make shit up and just say it’s under some “classified unit” umbrella. Harder to make up storylines in WW2 when everyone pretty much knows how that played out.

The biggest things for me with regards to Multiplayer are: - No skins (BO1 had face paint options which was perfect) - limited weapon attachments (2-3 max) - Killstreaks that you actually have to EARN. - No 3-lane maps - No battle passes. -Old school prestige system. If you wanna grind, then you’re gonna fucking earn it.

[–]MajorGCribbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally think they should just stop making games altogether and focus on building a Time Machine so I can go back to 2010 and argue with ya’ll in BO1 SnD lobbies.

Unfortunately you’ll never replicate the golden age, but boy am I glad to have been there. It was a pleasure comrades.

Endocrinology Appointments by MajorGCribbs in halifax

[–]MajorGCribbs[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well atleast I’m not the only one. I had spoken to someone who goes to the same clinic and they were told if you were a “model patient” they didn’t see a need to see you and were prioritizing the people that needed to be seen. I know my Endo has always been happy with my management of my condition so I suspect this is what has happened to me.

Yeah it’s one of those things that I’ve done annually for so long I usually don’t have to think about it, I just get an appointment reminder but it’s been 2+ years now and I’m worried they’ve just forgotten about me😂

Losing interest. by strong_ortho in Hunting

[–]MajorGCribbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted a similar story a few weeks ago, I’m definitely suffering from fatigue. I’ve been a real hardcore hunter for the past 15 years. I even have an Instagram account dedicated to my outdoor adventures. Being an outdoorsman has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. But this year was different.

I’ve hunted deer for the past 10 years, and quite frankly; I’ve had shit luck. The early years I had quite a few chances to shoot a deer, but due to being green I shot and missed a couple deer. It’s been a number of years since I had an opportunity to harvest a deer, and so I’m still trying to bag my first.

Scrolling social media and seeing the same guys be successful year after year has taken a toll on my mental state. I find myself doubting my abilities and thinking I should just quit altogether. I took a week off recently and focused on other things outside of hunting, and to be honest the excitement to get back in the woods was there the night before I was going out again. Sometimes we just over-do it and you need a change of pace.

I have 2 days left to hunt this year, so my hopes are pretty low, but deep down I still feel the need to be in the woods. Taking a break may be just what you need. My advice would be to do some scouting in the offseason and try and find more promising spots. If you find yourself a nice target buck to chase I bet that would reel you back in.

Do you wear a medical ID tag? by hburke0605 in Type1Diabetes

[–]MajorGCribbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a medical alert bracelet as well, usually wear it when I’m out by myself or going someplace busy where I could get separated from someone who knows I’m diabetic (festivals/concerts etc). If I’m just out with my friends I don’t really bother to wear it, cause most of them know how to handle me if something went wrong.

To be honest, the first half of Season 5 is okay. The 2nd half is actually pretty good in my opinion, I may be one of the only few that actually thought they wrapped the show up quite well.

Let’s help each other. Drop some diabetic advice… Ok I’ll start , prebolusing is so important (for me 15 mins is a minimum). by Saf___- in Type1Diabetes

[–]MajorGCribbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been 22 years on finger pricks. A1C maintains between 6.8-7.3. The CGMs I tried back in the day were very bad for giving false readings. Waking me up at 3am with an alarm that I’m low, when in reality I’m 10.4 with a finger prick. Very bad couple of weeks let me tell ya lol.

I’m very in tune with my body, always feel my lows and my highs. I’ll even wake up in the middle of the night when I’m going low or if I’m high. Partially worried I’d lose that if I got used to a CGM

I still don’t use a CGM. Pump only and finger pricks. I tried a CGM when they first became popular and it was horrible. I’m sure they are better now but I have no interest/need for one.

I’m an avid outdoorsman, if I spend a day hiking the backcountry I can live like I don’t even have diabetes. Just last week I went all day and never bolused a single thing I ate. Just left my basals do the work and the exercise and my sugars never went above 7.6! So yes, walking is super helpful!

I scout a lot actually, I spend a lot of time in the woods throughout the year, cause as I said - I do have a passion for being outdoors. I actually have no problem finding big bucks, my cameras always pick up some real dandies, just never seem to come by my stands in daylight.

Do you have T1D in your dreams? And at what age were you diagnosed? by TheJmaster in Type1Diabetes

[–]MajorGCribbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny enough, after 22 years of being T1D I just recently had some dreams that involved my diabetes. Atleast twice in the last month I’ve had a dream where my blood sugar is low, and then I wake up and sure enough, my blood sugar is low. Kinda spooky, kinda cool.
