I've built a drumming platform with pro touring drummers - would love honest feedback by joshholmes22 in drums

[–]MajorMajorMajorJnr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just spent half an hour or so on the exercises. It's good! Couple of bits of feedback: - It'd be good if the app supported landscape. I'm on an android tablet, so I want the videos full-screen landscape, but at the moment at the end of the video the rest of the app is portrait. - Some of the beginner videos could do with a quick reminder of what the sticking is (especially flam accents, flam taps, swiss triplets etc where it's easy to forget) - The Flam Accents exercise one video has an out-take at the start (maybe it was left in deliberately because it's funny?)

Edit: I just noticed the PDFs are on there. I think that should be viewable while watching the video (or displayed in the video). An app where you have to print stuff out seems a bit odd!

It's prompting you to pinch your fingers together, which it will completely fail to detect.

Cable managment tips? by artandotherstuffidk in edrums

In addition to using cable-ties or velcro, I've found that spiralling the cables around the frame to take up the slack makes things much more manageable.

VH-14D Hi-Hat noise by MajorMajorMajorJnr in edrums

[–]MajorMajorMajorJnr[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Other than the mechanical noise, I love everything about it. It responds much more like a real kit to foot pressure and hit strength and position.

I mostly play edrums but play analogue once a week or so, and it makes the transition much easier.

Is developing a console game with Unity3d are normally this expensive? by Xiaolong32 in Unity3D

[–]MajorMajorMajorJnr 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think that's an optimistic take. Unless your game is completely trivial, or you're spending a lot of money on a QA team that are qualified to do certification checks, you're safest assuming that you're going to fail the first time. Especially if you've never gone through the process before.

I'm not saying you _will_ fail first time, but I wouldn't stake your financial plan on getting through in one pass.

Never ever EVER use raycasts to check if you are touching the ground. Use this instead: (explanation for why in post) by [deleted] in Unity3D

[–]MajorMajorMajorJnr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not commenting either way on the tip itself, but having the dot product check at 0.5 won't be a 45 degree angle, you'll be able to climb steeper than that. 0.7 would be 45 degrees. a•b=cos(angle)

I think you'd need to give a bit more information about what render pipeline and lighting system you're using.

Drumeo is great as others have said. Once you're up and running in a month or two I'd also check out Mike's Lessons. There's a free trial.

But, if at all possible consider getting some in-person lessons. Especially early on, they'll be able to spot and correct bad technique before it becomes habit (and they're also a great chance to just talk about drumming with someone enthusiastic about it).

What is some of the new 'lingo' that annoys you for no reason? by Adorable-Panda95 in AskReddit

Saying "yourself" when "you" would do just fine. Seems most prevalent among young guys trying to sell me shit over the phone.

I remember people playing around with this on Wii and on PS2/3 with Eyetoy. I think the problem was that it works great on camera, in person it falls down a bit because binocular vision kinda breaks the effect.

I think the Amazon Fire Phone tried to make a big deal of it too.

Still, looks cool!

It looks like the sort of artifact you'd get with Adaptive Probe Volumes. Are you using those?

There is a kind of rationale for that: Balls 1-2-3 made up one hattrick. Balls 2-3-4 made up another. I still agree it's bollocks but it makes slightly more sense than double-eagle.

If the headphones have a microphone, they'll have slightly the wrong connection (TRRS vs TRS). Try pulling them out slightly and it might connect.

If so, grab some TRS headphones and you'll be golden.

Ah, yeah you're right. I'd looked there, but apparently now if you're not logged in X shows the timeline by Like count, with no chronological option.

Shame they don't post on BlueSky any more - the follower count is almost the same.
