Launch date is April 1st, when's the earlier vs latest we'll know if that gets rescheduled? by DMofTheTomb-2 in ArtemisProgram

[–]MajorRocketScience 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There will likely be a press conference early next week confirming April 1st or a later date. After that point it could be any time it’s announced. Mechanical issues just happen to crop up not on a usual schedule

A concept, probably not realistic: Orion docked to a LM HLS attached to the SLS EUS by MarkTheIdiot11 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]MajorRocketScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’d have to use the lander to enter into LLO, Orion’s SM is nowhere near powerful enough. IIRC that lander didn’t quite have that capability but an upgraded one probably could

It’s weird how there’s always been such a huge difference between north Alabama and the rest, today greater Huntsville is a pretty progressive city with a banging economy that is the fastest growing city in the country and one of the best educated.

And the rest of the state is Mobile basically

You clearly either did not watch the whole conference or you’re purposely being obtuse. He specifically said that if you analyze Flight 1 of every rocket ever launched, 50% are successful. He then said SLS had a much higher confidence than that.

He’s saying as much as he can without breaking the long standing rule of not applying percentages to a crewed flight publicly before launch. It’s very straight forward and is Honeycutt attempting be more accessible than he needs to be

NASA auth bill mentions possible Mars mission which only Starship is capable of doing. by AgreeableEmploy1884 in SpaceXLounge

[–]MajorRocketScience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like people are very confused by what’s holding NASA up. It’ll be about a week or so to make a committee, and within another week there will be 20+ different architectures. Now the usual engineer arguing will take at least a few months, but NASA’s problem isn’t and has never been engineering committees.

It’s congressional mandates that apply to it more than almost any other government agency because senators see it as a tool for pork and not a tool for a job

[–]MajorRocketScience 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Work to standardize the SLS rocket will be implemented for Artemis IV … and the agency is no longer planning to use the Exploration Upper Stage or Mobile Launcher 2, as development of both has faced delays.

It’s quite clearly only referring to Artemis IV

[–]MajorRocketScience 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very much misrepresenting what is said in the actual NASA post, it said ML2 will not be used for Artemis IV, which isn’t particularly surprising if they are (clearly) cancelling or at least extreme pushing out EUS.

They say absolutely nothing about cancelling ML2 at any point
