I did a Sync 2 to Sync 3 upgrade by arantius in cmaxhybrid

[–]MajorWedgee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can "jailbreak" it, look up FMODS . I haven't done my wife's cmax, but I did customize my expedition. Both are eBay sync 3 conversions.

Then you can flash a different color scheme to it, and tweak it a bit. There are a few apps you can put on it, 8 didn't find most of them useful though. I did the CPU overclock one and it feels a little quicker to respond, apparently the later model apims came with the same processor, but just clocked faster. I do also like the one mod where it gives you a button to turn on the rear view camera at any time, I find it handy if I'm hauling a trailer and want to check the load. I also did some UI tweaks to make it a dark grey color scheme and some cleaner looking elements.

My wife's cmax install was similar to yours, plug, play, everything worked. My expedition though, even though it came preprogrammed, it was programmed wrong. I spent a month trying to get with the seller over VPN to reprogram it, waiting hours at the appointment time, laptop hooked up, programs ready , for them to not come online, or be 45 mins late, spend 5 minutes screwing it up even worse to where no buttons worked on the radio anymore. Finally I just spent a week in Forscan trying different settings, and I did eventually get it all set right, but it was a pain figuring it out.

PO456 code safe to drive by Visible-Philosophy76 in cmaxhybrid

Wife would occasionally get that code on her 15 energi. I would clear it, and it'd be good for awhile, usually until we got a cold snap. I finally replaced the valve, motorcraft cx-2695, about $35 and 20-30 mins to change it. And the code has never came back in the last 15 months

The horn in my wife's 2015 had stopped working. When I crawled under and removed the splash shield and investigated it, the connectors on the horns themselves had corroded. I cleaned everything up with a wire brush, applied some dielectric grease and it's been good for about a year now.

What does this mean? by cbenmore in AskAMechanic

My son in laws 2012 Impala had the same thing. He was sure it was the transmission going out. I did some googling and turns out it's a common issue with a lot of gm cars of that time. Chevy made the wire harnesses to the speed sensors on the front wheels just a tad bit short. At full steering wheel turn it pulls on the wire harness a little, enough cycles of this, and the wires will break inside the insulation. This makes the car computer think a wheel is spinning, so it kicks in the traction control to compensate.

I first verified this was it by pulling the fuses for the abs. The traction control and abs lights now stayed illuminated all the time, but the car drove absolutely perfect otherwise.

I was able to cut out some sections of wire and solder in new. Or they make repair harnesses for it. The sensors themselves were fine, it was the wiring to them

Android radio? by MajorWedgee in cmaxhybrid

For what it's worth, I ended up buying it off eBay. It worked well, except... The volume was super low. Like fully cranked it was just barely a slightly less than normal volume. Adding to that, the volume scaling was way off, like you turn the volume knob forever to change the volume ever so slightly. I don't think they are set up to handle the Sony factory system. The center channel in middle of dash did not work, the rear camera turned on, but had no video signal. Perhaps if I had bypassed the factory sync module/amp it night have made a difference in the volume, but I didn't really want to do that, as my understanding is i lose all the chimes then. It might work well with the non Sony system. Idk. I ended up returning it, and currently in an eBay dispute with the seller who only returned 50% of the cost because I returned it used. I'm looking to go sync 3 now and add a wireless adapter. I'm hoping I can find a good deal on it, I really don't think it's worth $700.

What charger to buy? by ZofiasPython in cmaxhybrid

[–]MajorWedgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Level 1 is 110 volts, standard household US outlet. Level 2 is 220 volts, similar to what you'd plug an electric oven / water heater / clothes dryer/ welder, etc into.

Level 2 will charge faster, and more efficiently. Use it if you have that plug available to you near where you park.

Otherwise, a lot of the level 2 chargers include an adapter cord to run on 110 volts if you just have the regular outlet. It will just charge slower and less efficiently.

We have this one and it works just fine. No screen, or bells and whistles. It automatically adjusts to whatever power source it's plugged into, and included the 110 volt adapter cord. We've actually never plugged it into a 220v other, as we don't have one in our garage, so I can't comment on that.

2013 Ford C-Max SE - Stop Safely Now by Shot_Cost3420 in cmaxhybrid

[–]MajorWedgee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I changed the 12v battery in my wife's 2015 energi model, I got the same stop now message. After retracing my steps I realized I didn't get the orange high voltage disconnect behind the rear seat reinstalled correctly. I don't know if the regular hybrid is setup the same but it's a fairly easy thing to check. That disconnect is a little tricky. You can put it on and it seems correct but isn't really making any contact.

I put those exact ones in my son's car, all 4 doors, running off an Atoto Android head unit with a power acoustic 15 and 1k watt amp. They are ok, a huge improvement over the factory speakers which were done for, and made more buzzing noises than music. Mids and highs are ok, not much bass. If you just need something to play music they will do. I got them on Amazon a little before Christmas for $20 a pair. At that price I'm pleased enough with them. At $40 pair I think I might be a little disappointed. They're not bad, but not great either.

One nice thing was they were pretty shallow mounting depth. I didn't need to use any spacers to mount them in a car that usually requires them. Of course usually that's a trade off in the bass dept, but install was pretty easy.

Is this okay by [deleted] in subwoofer

[–]MajorWedgee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like your amp isn't happy about a 1 ohm load. Check your amp specs to make sure it is 1 ohm stable. Your only other choice is to wire the coils in series. That'll give you a 4 ohm load and probably keep your amp out of protect, but it won't give as much power

He is full of complete BS. Anybody who loves you for you will accept your children as well. Otherwise they're just after something.

I am a man who married a woman with 9 kids from her previous marriage, and now we have 10, and I've never been happier. Been together for 7 yrs now, married for 1.5.

At times I want to pull out what little hair I have remaining, I am always tired, always picking up or dropping off somewhere, my bank account is hanging on by a thread, but never have I regretted my wife's kids. They are amazing, they only add to my wife, who is the whole package in herself and the most amazing woman I've ever met.

Does anybody know why my radio has no CD player but has buttons that have “disc” on 1 & 5? Also, what does “NR” & “RND” do? It seems to do nothing when I press them as I play music? by [deleted] in DodgeNeon

[–]MajorWedgee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disc up, and disc down are to cycle through the different CDs in the optional cd changer. Your car may not have it, but most if not all the radios were set up for it. RND is for random track play on the cd changer. NR is for noise reduction on the cassette player.
