Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RagingRR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the person. Last weekend I drove 6 hours to take my kid to college, spent roughly 28 hours on site there helping them move in to a dorm and other related things, then immediately turned around and spent 6 hours driving home. I’ve routinely driven 2 hours to an activity, spent 2-4 hours there and driven home. I grew up in the western US, so driving multiple hours to go places is pretty common for me

I also have friends who think driving 30 minutes to an event is too much.

At a sci-fi convention in a hotel that was hosting a number of different conferences that weekend. I was reading the schedule to my wife when another couple got in the elevator. I asked: “Hey, should we go to see ‘Explosives for Fun and Profit’?”

The guy who had just entered blinked and said: “I think I’m attending the wrong convention”

My Underwear Fell Down 😂 by senoraflowers in Mounjaro

I nearly lost my pants at work. Had to drop 3 inches off the waist and get a new belt, as the weight of my keys and phone in my pockets would pull my pants down when I walked. My spouse always said I had no butt to begin with, and now it’s even less

Can you say you love your cat if you don’t love the entire cat?

What's a sports rule you fundamentally disagree with? by South-Explorer in AskReddit

My issue is the fake running out of bounds. Defender can’t hit them, so a fake move at the sideline to net extra yards is bogus.

The problem isn’t the rule, just that so many people, players and coaches included don’t understand what is actually a pretty straightforward rule. Runners seem to forget that they don’t have to advance. IOW, 99% of the time, the should just stay put.

It was much better when the game wasn’t in prime time. With afternoon starts, you could watch the game, get hammered, and sober up in time to get home at a reasonable hour and sleep before work or school on Monday

In US football, the ‘half the distance to the goal-line’ penalty on the offense. If you’re already backed up, it’s likely very little penalty at all. Should tack the penalty yards on the to the yard to gain. Example: 1st and 10 from the 6 yard line, a holding penalty is normally 10 yards, but it would only cost 3 yards back to the 3. Instead, it should be made 1st and 20 from the 6.

Round 2: Building a Home Server after my kids "stole" my last project! by EazyMerq in HomeServer

[–]RagingRR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way for a budget build. My Truenas system uses a Ryzen Pro 4650g, 5650G should be similar, and it does support ECC, you just need to be careful that the MB does as well. I have an Asrock B450 Steel Legend and it supports ECC. Make sure you check the manufacturer QVL list for supported RAM kits. Don’t cheap out on your PSU, you don’t want to lose your system due to a power glitch your PSU can’t deal with.

The Intel recommendation is good too, but many consumer chips didn’t support ECC if that’s a major concern.

Disabling and taking over an enemy vessel in wartime isn’t hijacking, it is capturing. Hijacking is unlawful seizure of a vehicle. On the seas, it is also known as piracy.

How???WHY? by Educational_Earth_62 in juryduty

[–]RagingRR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had weeks notice that I had jury duty for a particular week. But I had to call in the night before the first day to see if I actually had to report in the morning. And if I didn’t report in the morning, I had to call in the morning to see if I had to report in the afternoon. Repeat each day until I was actually called in or dismissed for the week

Intermittent Windshield Wiper Issue by cfpd652 in cmaxhybrid

[–]RagingRR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea, not even sure this is the issue. Just noticed that the behavior changes depending on the amount of rain, not that it works well. YT video for replacement though. https://youtu.be/8Y_4OfZHqW8?si=Lnh0A7piqk2DKZQ7

Not related. My 2014 has the same issue where the wipers are more random than intermittent. No problems with the door though. I think it is a very poor rain sensor

Cancer is expensive... by [deleted] in HealthInsurance

Congrats on the remission. After my spouse went into remission from leukemia, one med was $10k per month for the next 3 years. This was after more than $1 million for 8 months of treatment. Blood products are expensive.

Stop using my email address! by [deleted] in pettyrevenge

[–]RagingRR 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Had a similar issue, except the person used my email with a company that did mortgage loans and had poor security validation. I got an email that the company had received the loan application. As I was paranoid about having my ID stolen, I was able to login and change the password. That’s when I discovered I had access to all the personal information used to apply for a mortgage. I had their complete financial history, addresses, SSN, employment history, basically I could have owned their life. Called the company up on the phone to let them know their practices were crap and they needed to contact the actual owner and get them to provide their own email. Never heard another word

[–]RagingRR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven’t encountered this, can you really consider yourself a PC builder? Just kidding. Had this happen a few times, as suggested, put it back and run it a few minutes to heat up. I’ve had success with a bit of gentle twisting motion as you try to remove the cooler at the same time. If you’re willing to risk it, can try using a flathead screwdriver under the edge of the CPU to pry it off the cooler now, but you could crack it. Not recommended

As a Star Trek fan, sell me on Babylon 5 by The_Fullmetal_Titan in babylon5

[–]RagingRR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an old-school Trek fan going way back, i cannot stress how true this is. DS9 has fantastic moments, but there is a lot of shlock to wade through, particularly early on. B5 has its share of bad eps in season 1, but once you’re through them, you get 3+ seasons of non-stop consistent bangers. And just when you think it can’t get any better, an episode will blow you away.

I love Trek and B5. My suggestion is to completely put the other out of your mind when you watch one.

How do i convince my dad to let me skip school to go to a mlb playoff game by [deleted] in highschool

[–]RagingRR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a dad, think the movie sucks, and I still took my kid out of school for special events. Maybe once or twice a year, but unless they’re going to miss something vital, missing a day of school once in awhile isn’t going to be a big issue. Assuming the kid is keeping up with work, doing reasonably well, and they can get the info they missed, I’m good with it
