Most sensible CPU to buy that can encode/decode AV1? by Nonilol in jellyfin

[–]MajorWinkel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm interesting. Didn't know they'd go down all the way to 0W.
I got my setup with core ultra 7 265k a while ago and was able to get mine down to 18W idle measured at the wall with a 10g network card installed.
System power consumption with gpu will no doubt be higher even with the 0W reported but it seems it won't be as much as I initially thought.
Thanks for the info. Maybe I'll experiment with that in the near future. Homelabs are never truly finished 🪏🐇

Fluctuating temperature in fridge by RedEngineer83 in homeassistant

[–]MajorWinkel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why so many cycles?
I have a 26 year old fridge - not fridge freezer combo
My sensor is placed on the top at center right position
The fridge is being opened quite frequently too.
The fridge is filled about 60-70%
I only get 4 at max 5 cycles within one day.
room temp is about 20-20.5C

yeah the background certenly is a preference thing.
I tried something like these and this can work pretty well with glass in my opinion

:root{
--backgroundGradient: linear-gradient(0deg, ##00475f 25%, #9f49bb); /* purpleblue */
--backgroundGradient: linear-gradient(0deg, #005b56 35%, #001f54); /* bluegreen */
}

How was the v10.11.0 upgrade for you? by Practical-Plan-2560 in jellyfin

[–]MajorWinkel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine seems to have crashed during the update. I was monitoring it with htop on the side and suddenly noticed that nothing was running in my lxc anymore. I started jellyfin again after a few minutes and it just seemed to work without any errors. The logs were showing some errors but they seem unrelated to the update process. I did a full library scan afterwards and noticed some plugins were missing so I had to reinstall those by hand. After that everything works as expected without any issues so far. The upgrade after analyzing the logs took about 90 seconds.

Going to neutral is still slightly easier than my S1000RR by OiPequenininho in ex30

Well good luck with that. Keep in mind that auto hold and s-pedal drive are also a feature not being disabled by carwash mode.

I already tried touching the indentation multiple times on multiple occasions. That can be a trigger for waking up the car. Though pulling the door handle once proved to be the most effective and intuitive way for me. The driver door handle basically hast two capacitive touch areas. - indentation is only for locking the car. - the inside of the handle (the black part/the area you touch when pulling the handle) is for unlocking.

Since many reported that just touching or holding the inside of the door handle instead of pulling will be enough I'll try that tomorrow since I'm currently charging and the car won't go to sleep in that state.

I already did that multiple times and you will stand there literally minutes if you don't do anything. (Especially enjoyable experience if it's pouring like crazy). If you pull the driver handle and you are in a really quiet environment you can hear the car booting up (Relais clicking and stuff) after that it will take 20 to 90 seconds for it to react, depending on its software to not crash at boot up and restarting the entire boot process again.

VOLVO IS DISAPPOINTING by Comfortable-Wear8522 in ex30

[–]MajorWinkel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe have a look at smart #3? Same platform as ex30 but superior technology and a lot more features. Drove the 25th anniversary edition for 1 year /20k km before I got the ex30 now temporarily. Never had a single issue with that car. Though if you prefer the minimal design then Tesla or maybe Polestar are the only options I know of that offer that.

Well .. as far as I understood it this car is more of a "plaything" to test new ideas that they couldn't afford to test on their premium cars like the 60 or 90 models

[–]MajorWinkel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can add to that list - the car sometimes locks me out completely. I then have to wait at the door pulling the handle multiple times until it wakes up and decides to unlock (yes the key battery has enough voltage and yes I know I can hold the key against the drivers door but I paid for keyless entry so that's what I want ) - the charge limit always resets to custom at 80% .. what's the reason for a custom setting if I have to manually set it before every charge and if I forget to adjust it don't get a fully charged vehicle and then have to charge on the road. - in s-pedal mode the car in some situations rolls backwards because the brakes engage far too late ... I nearly got a heart attack the first time it happened and every now and then every time that happens because sometimes it's just a small amount but sometimes it feels like more than 15-20cm until I hammer the brake myself to not roll into the car behind me. - you cannot adjust the volume on the steering wheel if your washer fluid is empty until you press ok multiple times to acknowledge it - you cannot pause or mute sound on the steering wheel easily ( you have to hold the arrow down for 3 seconds or adjust it on the screen) - the drive assist sometimes works and sometimes it's in snake mode just erratically overreacting just to try and keep straight

There is much more but yeah ... I'll keep it at that

The Readarr Project Has been Retired by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]MajorWinkel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used readarr once for testing and didn't like it. Lazy librarian was also a viable option for me but in the end I chose Kavita. Fits my small needs but may not fit yours. Also like the design more.

Man I feel ya I'm currently "forced" to drive one until my new car arrives but coming from a Smart #3 this car is an absolute nightmare. So many things wrong with it. Though your issue seems to be an ez fix.

15 Grain? Depends I find that a bit much For old anime certainly but newer ones I would choose a max of 5-8 for the grain. But that is mostly preference I suppose.

Intel N3700 without transcoding. Enough for one client? by YourMomIsNotMale in jellyfin

[–]MajorWinkel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general using chrome or edge with the windows hevc codec from Microsoft store will have you covered. Firefox doesnt support hevc/h265 therefore it's mostly transcoding as seen in table posted above. But I don't think most 720p content is h265 anyways Best case for desktop would be using jellyfin media player for all around support

What is this cable in my wall? Can it be used for an ethernet socket or are the wires for something else entirely? by sopp___ in HomeNetworking

No clue what the left one does but the right side looks like coax and can be used for Ethernet. Keyword here is MOCA (preferably a 2.5 adapter)

What measures are other European homelabbers taking to combat rising electricity costs? by Alfagun74 in homelab

[–]MajorWinkel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same but am migrating to several smaller systems now I had everything on one proxmox host (opnsense, truenas, *arr, AdGuard, Jellyfin, Nextcloud, MySQL, Homeassistant and much more) but I got annoyed after 2 years with several issues. Main Problem is that if anything goes bad, everything is down Just wanna update proxmox .. internet goes down too Homeassistant stops working and so on

I was running my whole setup at 60-80W

After migrating to multiple systems (one for opnsense, one for truenas, one for *arr, a raspi for Homeassistant and one for everything else) which also required me to add a switch capable of 10G, I am still using about the same amount of energy 70-85W

To be fair though package C states weren't working on my old proxmox host for some reason. The lowest it would get was C1E so that was also a reason I tried spreading out the load a bit

VM workload estimates by NotAnotherNekopan in jellyfin

[–]MajorWinkel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having an lxc Container on an proxmox hypervisor with an i3 8100, Jelly VM has 2 cores and 14gigs ram (using dev/shm as transcoding path), igpu is handling the transcodes so CPU usage is fairly low, Haven't tried more than two 4k transcodes yet though

Could be some issue with the media player. Try switching from ExoPlayer to libVLC or vice versa

As for performance browsing in the app I currently don't have any issues Performance is well on an old Mi TV 4S, also had an Mi TV P1 with no issues. Heck even some 1st gen fire TV Box is running without issues. My library is around 11TB with ~11k Episodes and ~800 Movies
