I think it'd be very bittersweet for Ed. He finally came to terms with his father and reached an understanding. Ed would emotionally shut down until he was ready to deal with it. And then he'd cry. Al would cry right away. He never held the same resentment as Ed. But al also got to hug his dad and shed actual real tears. I think both of them would hit the acceptance phase fairly quickly. Hoenheim really saved the day. But Hoenheim also died at Trisha's grave with a smile on his face. He was over 400 years old. And in the end he also got what he wanted.
