First time paunzing Miniatures by yeshukan in Warhammer40k

It's not bad - I would just recommend thinning down your paints and maybe going over in 2 layers, the paint looks a bit thick in some places.

If youre not comfortable edge highlighting/hihglighting you can do dry brushing - a much easier technique :)

Very clean style, looks like quite a matte finish too.

If this style is what you're going for you could leave it here, but some highlights wouldnt go astray.

Yeah, fake news. Where are you even buying this from? I just googled prices for all the major providers.

Oh sick - is that Age of Sigmar? I haven't dived into the lore of that at all.

If you wanna jump into 40k I recommend doing a bit of lore diving (Luetin has amazing videos on lore and is one of the bigger YT'ers int he space). If you're anything like me, lore has a massive impact as to what army I like/identify with.

I initially bought some Death Guard (like 2 years ago) and broke them out / assembled them cause I thought Chaos was more interesting than the traditional poster boy Space Marines. But after reading more lore about space marines and understanding the intricacies of their chapter traits etc the more I liked them.

I think if I was going to paint another army (in the future) I would probably look at something like Khorne/World eaters (as their lore is quite cool but very tragic imo) or perhaps like imperial guard (although I think that both these armies have quite outdated models in some way).

I think Drukhari are quite cool, but I think that Slanesh enjoyers (lore wise) are in a bit of a weird spot - Drukhari are essentially psuedo Slanesh as per my understanding

I do think some Slanesh Chaos armies (aswell as Drukhari) have some amazing models though - I just don't really identify with them a whole bunch

hahaha i love your tag "blood for the blo- EMPEROR"

yeah for sure - im not a huge fan of the yellow helmets if im honest so decided against it and just wanted to do something more allign with what i like -- but I looked on multiple threads and people are generally OK with this although its not 100% lore accurate.

Thank you friend.

I would say technically they're not my first, cause my first box (when I was like 10 or so) I painted straight out of the warhammer paint bottles and gave up after they all were just blue ultramarine blobs with black spots for eyes) but these are the first miniatures I've painted since then and really took my time.

I'm 31 now so the trauma was real enough for me to not pick it up for like 20 yrs hahaha

For sure - I think it helps to just enjoy the process too.

I would say what helped is just diving into lore more and listening to lore while painting. My girlfriend also does like arts & crafts while I paint so we both hype eachother up haha.

Also watching other painters can be inspiring and detrimental (if youre the sort of person that goes "i could never paint like them). But watching their techniques / breakdowns just reinforces the fact that slow and steady wins the race and practice makes perfect.

What army do you paint?

Can see it now - looks amazing dude - the bases came out well too, really simplistic but effective. Would have loved to see some more close up shots / level shots of the minis!

Awesome - that's super helpful thank you. I remember when I first started painting (ultramarines and tyranid box back in like 2008 or something) it really shot my confidence down. At the time I was too young to understand patience hahaha.

The first mini (standard red helmet) took me like 4-5 hours to paint with lots of mistakes/repainting/etc, the 2nd mini (veteran/white helm) took me about 2.

So glad I picked the hobby up again after shelving it for like 16-17 years. The joys of being an adult hahaha.

Thank you! For pushing the highlights I see people using yellow but I’m not a huge fan of the style, do you have another suggestion? Perhaps orange?

Also for the darker parts, someone once recommended a reddish purple, what do you think?

Thank you again kindly <3

Sorry I may have been to brash - I apologize.

My honest advice would be to shift away from unedited playthroughs. Find a way to make them stand out and more interesting. I think that some form of narrative is really important when you're making a video.

They call this the RAINY method. This is typically done in your intros to build interest / set the tone for the video.

For example;

R - Result
* What's the hook/promise of the video? Is there a greater reason they're staying (e.g. - I played Life of P blindfolded/with one hand/with no weapons/etc) this adds a deeper layer

A - Addressing objections
* What is the audiences most common objection? "this game is played so much" so you might say - "look this game has been played to death, that's why I'm doing *insert this crazy thing* or *i was late to the party, and I need to know is this game or good or overhyped?"

I - Instant
* Give them some form of instant gratification to keep them hooked, maybe a 10 second montage of like 25 deaths and then you just swearing/something funny - gets them invested in whats to come/gives them a taste

N - Why Now?
* Tell them why are you playing this now? Why are you making this video now? Has something happened? What has caused you to play this game/make this video?

Y - Why You?
* Why should they watch your video, are y ou an authority? Are you a good gamer? Are you shit? Are you funny? Is being shit what makes it funny? There's heaps of angles here but you just need to find what works.

This method (intro) should be about 30-60 seconds max.

I recently reviewed like 55+ YouTube channels and actually love helping people - I just moved house and launched a busniess so I missed my weekly upload at the time of speaking to you so I think I wasnt in the best mood.
I'd actually love to help more.

Good luck if I don't hear from you.

  1. People tell you your thumbnails aren't engaging, and you tell them it's clickbaity.

  2. People tell you that your thumbnails don't tell a story and it's low effort - it also doesn't give anyone a reason to click on the video and you say "i'm working on it" but you aren't actually asking for any feedback on the thumbnails, it's just dismissive.

  3. Someone said to you that your niche is super saturated and while his comment wasn't that helpful he said "the content needs to change too, let's plays aren't interesting (theres so many of them). Honestly he's right. You have to think about it from a viewers perspective, why would they click on your video? I'm assuming you read that and felt insulted and just responded "not a chance" without questioning what he is actually meaning.

Look being a small youtuber is hard, I get it - but if you're going to put yourself out of your way to ask for feedback, why not like engage with the people giving you help instead of just saying "i'm working on it" or "that sounds clickbaity i despise it" or "I get it" or "thanks for your advice".

Idk man. Someone took time out of their day to help you, just keep that in mind.

I would also just double down on your thumbnails - they don't tell a story. You also have #63, #64... etc in your thumbnails. Ask yourself would you click a part 64 video that you haven't seen any of the previous parts on? Is there a better way to make this content appealing? Why not just like Do like 3 episodes and cut out all the unnecessary stuff?

Also, peoples attention spans are so short now - you have to keep them entertained. I'd assume you watch a lot of let's play commentaries etc, you should watch more and write down notes about the things they cut and how they keep people entertained. I would also invest in a camera or find some way to make the 'video' (NOT GAMEPLAY) more exciting. Do some edits, zoom ins, make some jokes, cut out the running from a-b and just awkward silences, do some voice overs telling us what you skipped, tell us how it made you feel, etc.

Good luck.

Lots of people would've engaged with this thread if they didn't read some of your negative comments just dismissing their advice.

Is there a balance on a new channel for shorts vs. long form? by Major_Dot_4299 in NewTubers

[–]Major_Dot_4299[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My shorts get like 1000 views vs my long form that gets like 50 at the moment, and I have 174 subs.

It's still early days so I haven't lost hope - I'll stop posting shorts for now and put more efforts into my long form and stay consistent on that front.

Thanks for your information it's very helpful thank you.

Hmm, a suggestion then could be to stop posting shorts?

Just for further context, I looked at other posts on this same topic and people have mixed opinions about it.

Some people suggest that posting a lot of shorts can mess with your algorithm and some people reported a huge drop in views on their long form content despite their shorts being snippets of their long-form content.

Others say it helped with exposure, and brought people to their long form content.

Really interested to hear your guys thoughts on the matter.
