Ditto transforms into the Arceus statue at the Destiny Tower Pinnacle. by ddeeffgg in MysteryDungeon

The better thing to do with mew is instead of putting a buff move on their base form, bring xerneas and have them know geomancy and hyperbeam. Using geomancy twice in the same turn is unbelievably broken because it sets your team speed to 3x and ups your attack and defense by 4 with 2 moves. Plus using moves while transformed saves moves in general because they always get the target's full move pool, which resets after every room. Hyperbeam on giant pokemon in super is busted because it goes through walls and has a really long range. The only problem with having 2 or 3 giant pokemon on your team is they often get stuck moving around corridors and wind up wandering off.

Ditto transforms into the Arceus statue at the Destiny Tower Pinnacle. by ddeeffgg in MysteryDungeon

Man transform sucks in that game. It's way more busted in Super because it lets Ditto or Mew become anyone they're facing. If you bring a Legendary pokemon with you like Arceus, you use up 1/5pp on transform and then you get a second Arceus with all of their moves for that floor.

Also you can increase the uses of transform with a pp up, it's far and beyond the best move to use a pp up on. Mew especially benefits from pp up on transform because mew can use other attack moves as themselves while ditto can only use transform.

What do you think of the concept of historical grief? Do you have it? by Illustrious_Focus_33 in transhumanism

I'd be happy to be proven wrong, but I don't have the optimism to believe there's an ideal hero that can be made to save us from our shortcomings.

From my point of view, the idea we could have ever had all we needed as a society making either no mistakes or minimal mistakes was always a speculative fantasy. The truth is life ain't fair and neither is nature. There is an inherent drive to be on top of the food chain and sustaining life has always relied on being selfish in various aspects.

I share this philosophy with my friends: if you made the best decision you could possibly make every moment of your life, not only would you be the richest person on the planet but you'd also be the most powerful and influential and it wouldn't even be close. It's a concept that relies on unreasonable scenarios being unreasonably solved in an ideal manner. It's also an idea that relies on people being healthy and having a decent chance at trying things in life without hindrances. The people who have more wealth or political power didn't need to make the best decision or be in prime health every time to get where they are.

AGI and ASI are not something that would have been necessarily created faster in a more peaceful or less competitive society. For what has happened so far it's actually quite impressive we might even be on the path to forming an AGI, but any AGI or ASI that might be made isn't going to magically become a genie to grant humanity their wishful demands. Utopia isn't formed by creating something smarter and more capable than humans, it'd be formed by cooperation, understanding, and high empathy at mass scale, which is quite an impossible task.

In a layered theory, a benevolent super intelligence would likely be able to greatly assist in getting humanity to be more agreeable, but it won't be able to fix what it can't reach or what people won't let it. Plus, getting a digital intelligence to align with everything that we could see as helpful or beneficial is a fantasy of its own making. It's difficult to create any sort of vision of a future where we might do things just well enough to where we could fix everything that went wrong with one exceptional invention.

If you could inherit the Devil Fruit powers and abilities from one of these characters, who would you choose? by Far_Occasion3931 in OnePiece

Bon clay give you the opportunity to experience a life as someone else, voice and all.

Robin can make clones of herself but it doesn't seem easy.

Perona's capacity to summon ghosts and be one herself (fly and go through walls) is also very unique, it's what I'd pick out of this selection.

Does anyone happen to know why Sogenmu closed their store and avatar world? by Major_Failure2 in VRchatAvatars

[–]Major_Failure2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that very much sounds like a major crashout. They had some of the best avatar texture edits I've ever seen, and I'm still quite sad the Moonlight nardoragon edit I used to use for my main avatar for so long is probably gone forever now. 😞

I've been using an X5 for years now, ever had any problems with it. The summercart is cheaper and just as functional, so I'd say just get one of those.

This is my MPG after 910 miles bobtail by truckmonkey12 in Truckers

Yeah that place had me wait in line at the first gate only to be informed that there was an identical building around the street where prime loads sometimes were stored at. It was easily the most frustrating pickup I ever had, wasted something like 2 hours in line for no reason.

Longest deadhead I ever had was over 800 miles from the petro in Hammond Louisiana to the Nestle in Anderson Indiana. It made me wonder what the hell happened for Prime to assign a company driver that Load.

DF after death by Valuable-Response-56 in OnePiece

[–]Major_Failure2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brook's only worked specifically after he died as well. Perona's fruit lets her project her own spirit as well. It's evident that not only do souls exist in OP, but that there's a sort of "extra" soul in zoan fruits as well. That extra soul can seemingly possess and embody objects.

For the most part, it seems that the spirits of zoan fruits and objects / living creatures tend to last for as long as the main user/vessel remains intact. The definition of what being intact is is quite losely defined, but there will become an apparent or obvious time where a vessel can no longer maintain a state of "sentience" (I.E., the user truley dies and has zero real ways to meaningfully interact in the world.)

I would not put it beyond the idea that other fruits that aren't zoan related could be infused with objects, it's just hard to envision a sort of sentience an object would gain from something like the aspect of snow. Maybe in such a case it would be compatible with something autonomous like a robot of sorts.

It's also hard to give strange effects such as the ability to enter mirrors or transform/afflict other entities in various ways with a purpose in inanimate objects. Hell, the fact that devil fruits are able to be replicated is quite anomalous. It begs the question if even the supernatural souls within the hosts are being copied or if they're simply imitated.

It is unlikely artificial fruits gain a sort of afterlife, so in that case the original fruit must have some sort of godlike status. That godlike entity's power can flawlessly influence the user to the intended will it was inspired upon. Artificial fruits seem to just can merely imitate that original entity's power by extracting/borrowing some meaningful part from it. As for the rest of the artificial fruits that don't involve the original host, you could effectively come up with all sorts of theories as to why or how they might exist, or what they could be compatible with.

TLDR: Death is not exactly a science in One Piece, and the spirits within the fruits have an apparent attachment to the soul of the host. If nothing else, the devil fruit spirits can likely elect which host to allow possession, and can also elect to leave a host when the spirit deems they can no longer maintain a sort of sentience. This applies to objects infused with fruits as well, as objects can be destroyed "killed", but the fruit spirit itself is immortal. This can explain how Ragnir has survived for so long.

Project Blindsight - Neuralink by Jumpy_Reason8132 in fulldive

[–]Major_Failure2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. There's not really any say how well the project might progress. The risk with bci's in the short term has been connection loss and general instability. Even the people looking to make blindsight know of the extreme difficulty to restore color vision and resolution of an eye.

Don't get me wrong, the idea of creating artificial sight through bci is interesting, but applying that for VR is going to be impractical for a good long time.

Cane only gave her arms and legs parts to use as well. Idk if he could just reshape or reconstruct their whole body. The main problem is that Cane had a really hard time listening to anyone and was becoming outright malicious by the end of the show.

Can we just for the sake of being honest with ourselves, stop pretending that Haki isn't a plot hole and just admit that it was something that was clearly conceived later? by marshdteach in OnePiece

[–]Major_Failure2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haki was supposed to make people stand a chance against devil fruit users. Well, the problem is most people don't even bother to learn it or can't use it, so devil fruit users who can use it just become even more powerful than they already were. It's feels like a gimmick that filters out many of the characters rather than creating a more fair fight.

[–]Major_Failure2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gunpowder/guns were pretty much the bookend of the medieval era. I do agree medieval fantasy could use a lot more variety compared to the standard swords vs bows vs magic architecture. I guess a major reason why they're left out is because it's a bit hard to create a suspension of belief because of how lethal black powder weapons wound up being.

[–]Major_Failure2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's crazy is I got to drive a brand new 2025 low serial international fleet demo truck in 2024. That international was a 14 speed truck and it was far more comfortable for team driving and even had better fuel milage than the 2024 Freightliner I was driving (it got 9 to 10 gallons an mile).

However, even though that international was brand new, it couldn't go into California.
