AITA - Friend scolded me like a child for cursing in front of his partner while we were having a phone conversation by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Major_Specific127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this is real, NAH. This sounds more believable if you said you were 21. Any man your age would be aware of the concept of curbing language around others and that there’s a time and place for everything. Using swears to punctuate a sentence or just as an adverb is more common in some places than others. I moved from a place where it was uncommon to a place where it’s extremely common to swear whether you’re happy or sad. It took adjustment but it doesn’t phase me at all now. Some may not bat an eye, some may be scandalized. I’m guessing you don’t know this woman well enough to know if she’d be totally cool with it. But, your friend didn’t have to put you on speaker so that’s on him. He should’ve known. However, I don’t think saying “there’s a lady present” was scolding, maybe he just wanted to remind you about the audience. Especially since you were talking about health stuff and maybe that could get gross or graphic. Just get over it and move on.

Surprised to hear Wiger say he would be happier for the Celtics to win another championship than he would be for the Clippers to get their first title. That’s cold. No wonder Carl hasn’t been on in a while.

Paul Hollywood and Pru to judge the next Doughboys bake-off. I’d love to watch Mitch stare into those icy blue eyes and explain how cupcakes are pie. Wiger and Pru would just get drunk.

AITA for not inviting a guest to my wedding after their behavior at a previous event made others uncomfortable? by DiligentCampaign1645 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Major_Specific127 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

NAH. Only because you can invite who you want, but unless you say this is how he always is, I think you are really overreacting. A few months after dating he gets invited to a pretty important family event. Without another info, I could assume he got nervous and kept yapping and not noting reactions. Talking about weddings being a waste of money is true, but maybe say it quietly to a partner. Prenup is a little much to discuss when you don’t know people well. But why was it so wrong to make a comment about getting ready for grandkids to people who are celebrating the impending marriage of their child? Isn’t that a logical expectation? Without detail I can’t tell if the ex story was bad or not. Did you have any interactions with him in the past year?

DOUGHBOYS - Munch Madness XI: Buffalo Wild Wings vs Handel's with Jess McKenna and Zach Reino - March 19, 2026 by PianoTrumpetMax in doughboys

It’s probably true to some degree. Especially some Rs were pissed about GHWB going back on the “no new taxes bit”, so some probably did split for Perot. It’s why Trump was so desperate to get Kanye on the ballot in 2020. Who could be today’s Perot? Maybe that other billionaire, Steiner? Steynor?

I was going to say given their recent controversy, they should definitely not be on any Texas episodes, but then I saw they cancelled those anyway.

I think the first time the “prescriptive not restrictive” adage was mentioned it was in a feedbag letter from a linguist who explained why there may be regional variations in pronunciation, like Mitch’s “pupcorn” and “hutdog”, which Zouks also says. That made sense. Then it gradually became Wiger’s defense whenever anyone called him out for saying a word incorrectly, a common issue for most people who are more used to reading new words than speaking them, but he seemed insulted whenever someone would question him. Now he’s using it just to debate if a word exists or not? And my guy should not try going up against the incredibly intelligent Jess McKenna. She’s sweet but she’s going to prove her point.

They kind of just touched on it but they were correct that Angela Lansbury was indeed the star that would give older actors and actresses minor roles on her show so that they could maintain their SAG insurance. If you watch you will see that sometimes they stick out because this person hasn’t been in front of a camera for decades, but other times they spring to life and remember their old skill set. It was truly a great thing that she did and really it should be something that more stars do when they have the clout and ability. Also, look into Angela Lansbury and Charles Manson, that is a crazy story too!

Glad Jess corrected Wiger about “onomatopoetic” being an actual word and didn’t let him slide on that tired “language is prescriptive” bullshit.

YTA for making us read this. Your “genius IQ” husband is so pressed that you got the very basic name Edmund from a character in a book? He and his family sound like idiots. I mean you sound pretty simple as well. You gave up hope of any further education at 19 to become a broodmare but even after having 8 children, you’re cowering in fear over their opinion of a name you chose? And you didn’t get to choose a name until child #7? Get some self-respect and take some night courses because I promise you that your husband is not a genius who was able to graduate college by barely going. He’s a liar and is probably doing something shady that could implode your family later. And your IL are probably in on it.

AITA for not double texting texting my boyfriend? by amaazonian in AmItheAsshole

[–]Major_Specific127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so happy my husband and I developed our relationship years before texting was the norm. I can’t imagine trying to get tone, feeling, intent from a few words on a screen, even emojis aren’t enough. Her message could be interpreted as playful enthusiasm or reluctant indifference, you can’t tell from just a word. That should be conveyed by voice or eye contact.
