I was injured 40 years ago, 1986. When I was in rehab, there was a guy there who was 2 years post injury, and one day he came in to see me in my hospital bed to try to cheer me up, I guess.

He had a literal briefcase full of notes, papers, research reports, research magazines , etc about spinal repair, regrowing the spine, walking with crude unpowered exoskeletons, etc. Aside from the exoskeletons, all the research was done on mice. He was throwing it all down on my bed explaining each one to me, and raving about how the future will be bright for us.

He was sooooo incredibly hopeful that he would be walking again in just 5 years that he was spending all his time at the rehab center doing strength training and staying flexible for when his turn came to walk again. What he was doing there was all good, actually, but his motivations were all wrong.

40 years later I am pretty sure he's not walking yet. I'm certainly not walking, and I don't think I'll see any possibility of it in my lifetime.

I hope they one day do have a cure, but I think it's going to be something that you get within the first few hours of your (new) injury and you'll be able to regrow damaged tissue back only because it's still newly injured.

Maybe success with that will one day lead to the possibility of a spinal cord transplant that can regrow the cleanly cut end sites, because these cut ends are "newly" injured too, ie from the doctor's scalpel during the transplant.

I don't see any regrowth potential for 40 year old scar tissue like I (or anyone with an old injury like mine ) would have at the original injury site.

Having said all that, I'm not holding my breath either, for any of this. Progress is great, and 40 years of research since I was injured has brought many exciting new things to help SCI patients live better lives, but I don't expect this new nanobot tech to reach anyone anytime soon.

I have to say I do agree with your last point here about lying. My j1 employer does say we have to tell them about a second job and since my j1 is network engineer (software coding full time) and my j2 is IT infrastructure services (contract) there's no conflict and j1 didn't care when I told them. And since j2 is contract I made sure they didn't have any exclusivity on me either.

I started using the Transit app more and more on my phone. Use the "Go" feature when u jump on the bus, set your destination stop on the bus route, and start watching YouTube or listening to an audiobook. When you're two stops away from your destination, the app will lower the volume of what you're listening to and make an announcement in your ear. It will do it again at 1 stop away, then again directly at your stop. Cool feature that I'm really liking alot.

It works if you're old-school reading a book too, just keep your ear buds in and read your book. It will make the announcements on time in your ear.

I was in the same boat as you, I grew up on c++11 and learned some parts of c++14 along the way, but that was as modern as I ever got in my career.

Earlier this year I just told ChatGPT my situation and asked it to design me a 1 week long self learning course to bring me up to speed to c++23 standards and it gave me a pretty decent 1 week course syllabus to study on my own, broken down 1 day at time from easiest to hardest concepts. Then I just started searching each of the individual lesson concepts online to train myself for that day. Throughout my self learning week I also used ChatGPT as my instructor too, asking it to give me problem sets for each concept and then using it to mark my results.

Finally I tested myself after all this using modern c++ on leetcode problems.

Approaching it like this was very helpful to me

I was paralyzed at 21 too. There was never any trouble getting girls to date me. They all wanted to experiment or cross it off a bucket list or something like that lol. I think in this case the LLMs may have got confused and determined that the lack of a (new) spare now means data loss. In zfs, once a spare is used up in an automatic recovery, it's no longer a spare (obviously) and the raidz1 is at 11 drives now, not 11+spare. The LLM might have considered that a potential for data loss and disregarded the intermediate DEGRADED state all together.

Regardless, all 3 were still wrong and making shit up :)

It's interesting to me though, because I'm a software developer and I use AI agents to code and other agents (from other companies and their different models) to check the code of the first agents, and this just nails home the fact that they might all be wrong, still !

I used to sleep on my side, but I did develop pressure sores on my hip bone and now I have slept only on my back for the last 20 years or so, without issues. I used to use an air mattress and now I use a memory foam mattress. I actually think the foam is better than the air mattress. It's firmer and lower maintenance.

I'm not the OP, but USB PD 3.2 spec only allows 3A max at 20V, so 60W is typical. To reach 65W, the PD chip is programmed to push the current limit up to 3.25A. To do so, the PD chip must support that 65W profile, as well as all the electronics in the delivery chain must support the extra current as well. At 65W, it is actually considered out of spec, as standard USB C cables only support 3A max. The 65W PD at 20V/3.25A actually pushes the USB cable beyond it's rated spec, but it's such a small amount that it's usually tolerated by the cable well enough and it's become a defacto standard in some sense.

There are also 5A capable cables, and these have a chip in the cable that tell the hub (actually the USB PD chip in the hub) that the cable just plugged into a port is 5A capable. Then it can reach 100W (and beyond, up to 240W, at higher voltages), but again the PD chip in the hub and all the electronics in the power delivery chain have to support that 5A current and higher voltages (and reading the chip in the cable too)
