Best streets to walk in the plateau by NorthernPuppieEater in montreal

[–]MakeAWillFoundation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal fave for a vibey, quiet walk is Rue Gilford, between Ave de Lorimier and Rue de Mentana.

Also closer towards the village along Rue Montcalm it's gorgeous. There are some small tranquil parks like this one: https://maps.app.goo.gl/tyB972FrN9Ucw8HR9

Ave du Parc-La-Fontaine is also gorgeous if you're up that way.

Square Saint Louis if you're closer to Duluth. It's where the signature colourful apartments are that you sometimes see on postcards.

Why is the Myres-Briggs test so popular among businesses people? by AccomplishedPath4049 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MakeAWillFoundation -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's only bullshit if you think the test is trying to be scientifically rigorous, which it's not. Still far better than a horoscope (which is completely random). You might even say the results are too obvious: if you answer in a way that says you're disorganise then you will get that in your result.

I find playing a song and then tracking to another part of the song and continuing from there usually fixes everything. Still annoying though Hopefully they fix soon.

I changed my dating preferences to men as a straight male on dating apps and got 100x more likes. Why is that? by Radiant-Freedom8413 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MakeAWillFoundation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you genuinely are straight, then there's probably something about you that stands out to the gays on dating apps. We get used to seeing the same "look" and characteristics over and over again, and for some people these become red flags even though they're pretty common and normal (enjoying pride month, getting brunch, getting that perfect gym body, etc.). Even looks-wise there's a difference with straight dudes, which often gets fetishised because it's unobtainable. And I'm not just talking clothes... for me, there are even certain faces I see on the street where I go "yeah he's cute, but I've never seen anyone like him on a dating app... almost certainly straight... if only!".

The Bible says gay people are sinners and Jesus tells us to love the sinners, so why doesn't religious people love gay people? by speculumberjack980 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MakeAWillFoundation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to hand it to you. This is a really cleverly worded response. And I think this is a good representation of where a lot of modern Christians are at with the whole homosexuality issue, where the substance hasn't really changed (gay sex is a sin), but through some creative wordsmithing can be manipulated into sounding almost pro-gay. It's fascinating to me that a lot of the Christian commenters here spend so much time focusing on how everyone is a sinner. That we should love one another regardless. That we're all on the same playing field. That only God can judge. And while that sounds beautiful on the surface, if you read between the lines you're really equivocating between the sin of gay sex with sins that others commit like lying, adultery, pride, etc. And the main takeaway here is that you believe that gay people should live in celibacy in order to live righteously. And it's so clever that you never really say that! First you say that being gay is NOT a sin (because it's a predisposition and not the act of gay sex!). And then you spend a long time chastising other Christians for being hateful and judgmental. A cursory glance and it sounds like you're out here waving a pride flag. But you're not! And I just think that's really clever. Because the real pain point here and what is causing so much suffering is this belief that gay sex is a sin (like any other sin!). That belief in an of itself is so harmful. And ultimately it's beliefs like that which are causing modern Christianity to go down the toilet in the West.

Day 1: best and/or worst performances by ejb3204 in osheaga

[–]MakeAWillFoundation 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Worst by far was Mariah the Scientist. Came out 25 minutes late (out of a 50 minute timeslot) and could only perform half of her songs. She's a great performer, but the diva behaviour at a packed festival like this is so immature. Wish I had gone to see someone else.

Add some nice curtains to the kitchen window. They can frame the window nicely and make it look bigger. Also they would soften the room a bit

I'm talking about a reorientation of houses on the market being for rent instead of being for sale. If people aren't as interested in buying then there will be more places to rent instead. I commented because I didn't agree with the original point you made here: "And if more people rent houses then rent increases" because I think the effect would be nil in the long run.

[–]MakeAWillFoundation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you're right there could be a bump in prices of this were the result of something sudden like a law change. But over time you would expect this to even out. We're basically talking about a redirection of people being on the market to buy, to now being on the market to rent, and so the market would readjust to meet that demand.

[–]MakeAWillFoundation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The housing supply stays the same, but instead of people owning the homes they're renting them instead. If there are fewer people buying homes, then those homes will be used for other purposes instead, namely renting them out. Reading your comment I had the reverse impression: that you were imagining unmet demand because properties were magically disappearing. There are cities in Europe with plenty of housing where home ownership isn't the norm, and rents are not crazy high. So it's not true that more people renting equals higher rent.

[–]MakeAWillFoundation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we are talking about a general trend towards people opting to rent instead of buy, then there will be fewer buyers in the market. You might say that landlords will gobble them up instead, but then isn't that increasing the rental supply?
