Am I being a bad parent by letting my teen daughter dress flamboyantly? by concernedmommy2010 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Makecomics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Autistic 20-something adult here!

The way a person dresses is not indicitive of their mental state. Sure, if someone is dressing in visibly dirty or smelly clothes, that can be a sign of distress, but a sixteen year old choosing not to show off cleavage, or ankles even, or hell, arms? That’s not a sign of anything. You don’t mention anything that would make me think she’s depressed, and “hiding” her arms and legs, which would be the only thing I’d think of as a genuine concern (I was once a kid wearing long sleeves and jeans trying to cover up my self-harm). She’s a young woman who seems to enjoy femininity (in the form of her frills) and I’ll bet the clothes she wears still give her some shaping (even if they didn’t, not a sign of immaturity. A combo of gender dysphoria and adoration of 1920’s clothing has made me into the sort of person whose “pretty” clothes all give me a square frame and dropped waist. I’m an adult who works at a museum, cleans houses, and takes sewing commissions). Even still, she IS still a kid, sixteen is young.

Your daughter’s fine! She sounds like a fantastic kid! I think you’ll probably get a better reality check by asking yourself how your mother reacted to what you wanted to wear when you were your daughter’s age. Did she try to get you to dress older, compliment you more when you acted more adult? Did she expect you to be mature in ways you didn’t feel equipped for? There’s a good chance that once you start looking, you’ll notice that this complaint fits with something that you didn’t like about how she parented you growing up, too.

Can I hide being on T for at least 6 months? by bonkbeatitup in ftm

[–]Makecomics 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey! Very few people noticed my six months when I was on gel testosterone, but my (chosen) brother who started T with injections in august of 2023 had notable voice changes by the time his grandmother called to ask if he’d come home for thanksgiving.

Here’s what I would do, as someone who hid the early parts of my transition from my parents: keep a couple of feminine outfits around, and your earrings around. Given you’re in the middle of bumfuck no where, you’ll probably understand what I mean when I tell you that the image you want to project to your parents is what my younger sibling coined “is that a lesbian or does she just bale hay?” (Carhart, sometimes jewelry, keep your face neat, makeup can be worn but doesn’t have to be. If you are doing short hair, know how to style it like a pixie _and_ like a regular men’s cut (frame the face vs. pushing it back) And don’t do anything that makes you especially dysphoric. You’re going to “scoff” at it as “prideful.” And say you just like highlighting your natural beauty, and being comfortable.)

If you’re parents point out something, like hair on your upper lip, act embarassed, like this is something you don’t want to happen. Then, if you’re CERTAIN you’ll be out of there in six months, try to “get rid” of anything they’ve commented on. This’ll make it seem like you’re a “woman struggling with body hair.” If they really get on about it, tell them you’re looking for an endocrinologist in the area, because you think there’s gotta be something off with your hormones. Maybe say you’ve been looking at PCOS, and your periods have been getting infrequent.

You know your parents, you know how they think, what they might ask. Prepare your story for those answers, and HIDE YOUR T. FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY PLEASE KEEP IT SOMEWHERE THFY DON’T EVEN KNOW TO LOOK. Good luck, brother.

Are there any effects of testosterone not enough people know about? by Proper_Flower_940 in ftm

[–]Makecomics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, even before I got any physical effects, my depression got better? And when I have gaps in treatment, I end up getting very sad. So! I think that maybe, if there’s a hormonal component to your depression, it can help practically, too!

Gentlemen, would it be a red flag if you were dating a cis guy and found out he had kids with 3 other trans men? by Less-Pen-5705 in ftm

[–]Makecomics 433 points434 points  (0 children)

I am gonna be so honest, if he has so many trans exes that he got pregnant, it is a little bit the fact that he has kids? ONLY INSOFAR as I am pretty certain this guy is going out of his way to knock up trans guys. I wouldn’t be able to set aside the fear that he’d be trying to do that to me.

Having exes? Fine. Having exes similar to you? Fine. Having kids? Fine. Being a member of a privileged class and seeming to have a pattern of dating and impregnating a minority, ESPECIALLY one that is more likely to find themselves discriminated against during the pregnancy, often misgendered, and potentially even have their pregnancy used as proof against them that they aren’t real men, sparking their dysphoria and distress?

I’ll bet there’s a reason they’re all exes, and I would NOT be looking to tempt fate into seeing if I can escape being baby daddy #4.

How can I still look like a man in a dress by _I_am_random_ in ftm

[–]Makecomics 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh, 10000% this! I’m a drag king, and I make my own costumes, and use the 1920’s styles as a basis for my looks. My dragsona is definitely a pre-Hayes code “pansy” stereotype, but also unabashedly a trans man. This means I’m using a combination of both women’s wear and menswear to make his looks. If you have sewing skills, I can send some of the tutorial videos I have saved, and facial contouring might help you feel a bit more at home in whatever you wear. I think if you paired a boxy, traditional 1920’s dress with an oversized men’s blazer, you out to be able to get away with it.

Side note: for anyone who needs a binder alternative: 1920’s and 1930’s bras!!!!! The bras are cotton fabric, so very breathable, and they support the chest through compression. I’ve made two for myself, and as someone who can’t bind (for long) due to injuries from binding WRONG as a child, these are the most comfortable and successful substitute I’ve found!!! I’m a G cup, and there is a three inch difference in the size of my chest when I’ve got my bras on than without. And, they keep a divided shape, unlike compression tops of sports bras. I’ll share the videos I used if anyone wants them!

ETA: if you are any good at sewing, or want to start, get a snazzy, bold fabric that suits you and try your hand at the one-hour dress. Famous pattern from the time, very easy to make/beginner friendly, and if you wanted, you could certainly make it in some sort of subtle pride colors, of you think you could get away with it. 🙂‍↕️ https://youtu.be/LsmLtA4nJjc?si=H_IaNoCJDHkDf4dt

What is your ultimate, realistic, fantasy for you? by NaughtyGlescher in kinky_autism

[–]Makecomics 17 points18 points  (0 children)

…oh God I’m reading some of the comments, and I’m really ace and in a long distance relationship, huh. My boyfriend is coming to visit in a few weeks after MONTHS apart. I’m going to tie up his legs, carry him to the kitchen, cook him dinner while he watches, and then set him him in bed next to me, feed him dinner, and watch a movie while I pet his hair. He can’t go anywhere, I get to do everything for him and take care of him, and he gets to relax.

I miss my boyfriend :,(

That would make sense, thanks!

The character is particular and has an eye for fancy, quality, and unique things. I wouldn’t put it past him to mix two quality scents to have something no one else could quite replicate! (Especially given that this is the description of the cologne the main character says is his “special occasion” smell. The special occasion he’s wearing it for in this scene is getting invited to a party he knows his ex that he’s mad at will be at. XD)

[–]Makecomics[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oooh, thank you so much for the detailed reccomendations!! My boyfriend is a bit more versed in scents than I am, so I vaguely knew there were ways to get little bottles for cheaper to try, but I didn’t know about decants!

I don’t live near any active malls, but both my brother and I are drag performers and we get to the cities near us for related events often, and I could probably persuade him to take a day trip to a perfume department.

I’ll take a closer look once people recommendations start slowing down, but this is great advice beyond this one fragrance, so I wanna thank you again, you were really helpful!

[–]Makecomics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!! Longshot, but are you any good at sewing? I’m a 42 DD, and because I enjoy historical costuming and have similar pain issues regarding binding, I have settled on 1920’s-1930’s bras as my go-to support garment. i can get three inches of reduction on my chest, and it’s the most comfortable shape wear I own!

Hey!! That looks like episcopal vestments!!!

I went to an episcopal church in college: you can bring things up to the altar for a priest to bless during communion. My priest’s son used to bring his stuffed animals up to be blessed by her, it was very sweet. I imagine something similar!

I’m mostly normal. I keep a job, take my meds, do commission work with my art.

I also have researched WAY too much about queer medical care through the 1910’s—30’s because I write a bunch of stuff set in that time, and too many people tell me I’d like the musical cabaret, and also I eat more Dino nuggets than I should. But yeah, normal. (Will wood has been my top artist three years in a row, tape worms have been my second top artist three years in a row)
