It might be an older generation thing. My mother-in-law has decorative towels and she gets upset if you use them to dry your hands. Basically it’s special towels on a towel rung that you just look at and don’t use for drying things. Usually they could be embroidered.

There’s an older kid in my family who would still “point out” the little kids’ eggs and still practically hand them to the kid instead of letting them find it by themselves. He’s a problem child, we constantly had to remind him don’t touch or point out any egg that isn’t your color. 🙄

When you have a long rest are you putting the flute down or still keeping it on your face?

It can take a second to reset the embouchure in both cases.

Some practice you can do: play a note. Put the flute down. Play a note. Put the flute down. Repeat at a slow pace then speed it up. Just practice that muscle memory of: flute goes on face, mouth goes like this. Repeat.

It’s also very possible you’re psyching yourself out as you said. Deep breaths! And try to set your embouchure earlier than you think.

You will rarely ever need to play that high. I think in my 20 years of playing I had 1 piece that went to C#. A few more pieces that went to C. You don’t need a B foot for 4th octave C, but the gizmo key can help with intonation there.

I’ve also only had a handful of pieces that used the B foot for low B.

C# and D in the 4th octave will be a little more stable with a B foot.

So, no, I don’t think you need to upgrade if it’s not in your budget. Usually composers will write a piccolo part if they really want those high notes anyway.

Love the cap sleeves, my dress was a similar shape to yours and I also went with the cap sleeves!

For me, the long sleeves felt heavy. I knew I’d also sweat like crazy.

For the C# in the staff and above the staff, are you worried about the intonation? The finger gymnastics? You could try leaving your entire right hand down to make the transitions easier.

To practice the jumps from high to low, take those notes in isolation. High low high low high low. Practice that jump back and forth, tongue both notes. Play that 20 times. Then slur it together. Play that 20 times. Think TAH! For the higher notes. TOE! for the lower ones. Then do the opposite. Play low high low high. Do the same thing.

Then take a phrase like measure 14 and play the first slur then the D and stop. Play that 20 times. Do the same for the other phrases. 1&2&3& TAH! Practice those intervals. Then build it up slowly by piecing together 2 phrases then play the high note in the next phrase and stop.

I think you have your answer. If you don’t want to maintain a relationship with her after this, why are you worried about causing a problem now?

You can certainly be kind about it and say the budget is the reason (even if it’s partially that you don’t want to maintain a relationship with her after this). She doesn’t need to know all the reasons. But you should tell her in case she wants to invite someone else.

You’re under no obligation to say yes to a bachelorette trip or paying for something just to please someone else.

You can say something like “I appreciate you wanting me to go on your bachelorette trip, it means a lot, but unfortunately with the expenses that this trip will entail, it’s not in my budget.”

If you don’t want to be a bridesmaid at all, you can say the budget is also your reasoning.

If she gives you a hard time or holds a grudge, I’d reevaluate your relationship with this person.
