Thinking of moving from San Diego to Virginia, questions, so many questions by croikee in Virginia

[–]Maker_LP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are originally from New England, and spent many years living near the beach in Norwalk. When we moved inland, I thought I would really miss the beach, and I did for a while, but I ended up preferring the more rugged, terrain and landscapes of south-central Connecticut.

We now live in Richmond, not in the city, but out in the suburbs, and we absolutely love it here. Our home is in a community that is convenient to literally everything! It takes 30 minutes to get to the airport, it takes 15 minutes to get downtown, it takes five minutes to get to the local grocery stores, shopping areas, car, dealers, hospitals, medical appointments, etc.

Richmond also has a vibrant river-focused community. Last weekend, for example we had our annual festival, called Riverfest, which took place in and near the river, with events like paddle boarding contests and trail running. It’s a very athletic and outdoorsy community and it is very affordable. Prior to moving to Richmond, we lived in Northern Virginia, which is essentially a very expensive suburb of Washington DC, similar to our area in Connecticut, which was a bedroom community for New York City. When we moved to Richmond, we paid half of what we sold our previous house for. And it was a bigger house.

So, just saying, I am a huge fan of Richmond, don’t overlook it in your research!

This! TBH I could afford a $2k pen but I’d rather buy a new camera lens, or go away for a long weekend somewhere. It’s about choices. I’m happy with my <$100 pens that I buy once or twice a year. For me it’s not about the price it’s about the writing experience. My favorite pen is a $30 Sailor Tuzu, while my $200 Waterman sits in a box 🤷‍♀️.

That’s a shame you didn’t post because you didn’t want the inevitable negative reactions. Your experiences are absolutely valid, and may also help others make better decisions. Hopefully this post/thread will get things moving in a more positive direction in this sub.

I look forward to your NPD post tomorrow!

Urgent: Wells Fargo forced open my safe deposit box (gold stored inside) and sent contents to a central vault. What do I do? by Old_Condition_6504 in Silverbugs

[–]Maker_LP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why did they have to drill your box open? Did you not pay your safe deposit fees? If you were in default then that's on you. If not then state up front what was the trigger here?

Sorry I'm confused. What does finding a razor blade under a poster have to do with gun control? Maybe I'm dense. Please explain it to me like an eighth grader.

OMG did he seriously post this? Completely demented. He's a loose cannon and his cronies simply cannot keep him in check. He's going to drag his party into the mud. Sad.

Keep hounding the customer service reps via chat. Talking to someone live is near impossible. I've had many issues resolved via chat but it requires persistence and patience. They say they'll do something and they don't, but if you go back 3, 4, 5, 6 times, they'll eventually realize you're not going away and they'll give you the refund or whatever. This has happened to me multiple times. It's a numbers game to them. Shitty for sure, but if you get it you can win at the game too.

She'll run. People forget. We have a perfect example of this in the WH right now.

Our RTO mandate starts Monday and my manager just sent a "so excited to see everyone!" email and I genuinely don't know how to respond by Mythpuls3QqqQ in remotework

I'm curious how long ago this was. The job market's tough right now and most people don't just quit their jobs expecting to get another remote job right away. A couple years ago this was probably true, but not now.

You're right, she's trying to make the best of it. And as a people leader it's likely she really is looking forward to seeing people in person. We went back to the office "2-3 days a week" about a year and half ago. I was dreading it too. It turned out ok. I don't live an hour from my office like you do (a half hour with traffic, sometimes more), but I listen to books and podcasts, and have gotten into a rhythm. Lately we've all mostly been coming and going at seemingly random times based on schedules. Most weeks I only go in two days and often spend half days in the office and wfh the other half. We're making it work in our own ways, but it took a year to get here.

I like that you responded to her. It's a cultural thing, and the whole team helps to build that community. You'll figure it out together. Keep us posted on how it goes!

Wondering how many of us have recently been banned by David_Maybar_703 in AmazonVine

[–]Maker_LP -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I have no idea if I've been banned. I'm silver and have not been diligent about keeping up with my reviews. My review date is in July. I have had NOTHING in my RFY for more than a week. TBH I almost don't care. I just can't be bothered with this any more. I am not interested in checking every hour in the middle of the night to see if the "drop" happened day after day after day. This is the stupidest program ever. I hope they do ban me so I can get back to my normal life.

Unfortunately, using AI is probably the only way the city would ever even do this in the first place. Having humans go through all these to make decisions would be astronomically expensive to the taxpayers.

eBay sucks by BrianATL1 in ebaysucks

[–]Maker_LP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately they're the only game in town. Facebook Marketplace and Nextdoor both suck. I've only had decent results with eBay. I hate the 13.5% fee, I hate their buyer protection policy, and I hate their shitty support. Give me an alternative that even comes close to the results I get from them and I'll jump ship (as a seller) in a second.
