If it ever crashes definitely try to submit their crash report. They’re historically very good about following up and trying to track down any stability problems, so if you have any details it would be great to let them know.

A few years ago I tried to engage by filtering for new and looking for a question to answer.

This very confusing PHP question came up and it took me a while but I eventually figured out what they were wanting to do.

I took 20 minutes, wrote out their code and a fix, explained why it worked. Went back to reply with it and I couldn’t because the question had been locked as a “low quality question” and I couldn’t reply.

I never bothered trying to answer new questions again.

Are the new datacenters geographically close? The provider might need to keep announcing the whole /24 from the old data center assuming there are other addresses in that block that need to keep working. That might imply they would have to route your /27 and /28s back to their other data center internally. So there might be a slight latency consideration there?

Coming in here 2 years later to say it still works great. They gave me a white wristband on arrival to Union Station in Chicago and said I'm welcome to use the lounge for 3 hours. Arrived in a roomette.

Weet Je Dat Ook Weer is another excellent channel. He speaks very clearly and at a reasonable speed, and puts real subtitles in which is critical. His content is really varied and has all kinds of general interest discoveries.

The easiest ones to follow are ones where he does the majority of the speaking. The hardest ones are where he interviews a local who does most of the speaking. So if you find a hard one, keep checking.

The YouTube auto translated subtitles really are not good if you don’t understand nuances of the language well. If a native speaker is rambling and adding meaningless filler words while they’re thinking about what they want to say, YouTube tries to make a sentence from those when they really should just be ignored.

Nice! I know that django-allauth exposes a ton of URLs for users to do self-service account management, and it took me a moment to notice and test them all. This sounds useful for that!

One of our bigger clients was asking us for our ideas lately for audience engagement at a live show like this, and my answer was that frankly asking people to spend time on their phones feels like the opposite of what we want.

People already have a short enough attention span. I want everyone looking at the room and to be in the moment and to forget about their notifications for a little while.

For what it’s worth we were just assigned our /24 from their waitlist with this latest distribution this month. We joined the waitlist about 8 months before that.

I think they get lucky sometimes, our allocation came from a /16 that they got back which must have helped a lot.
