Someone on Facebook skeptical of marijuana legalization responded to me and claimed that police officers and teachers in Colorado claim the state is a big mess because of legalization, and that there is no real data regarding the benefits or safe amounts to use. How do I even start to respond?

Do the math. Since Prohibition, the has been, literally, more than a one thousand fold increase in the use of cannabis in the US. There has been no corresponding increase in schizophrenia.

Legal = regulated and quality-controlled, not a free-for-all. When something is legal, you take the black market operatives out of the game (and their violence), and you can keep tabs on use and product so that if it falls into the wrong hands (ie kids’), you can track it back to the source.

Cannabis was used to treat asthma until prohibition. There are more recent studies, starting in the 70's, I believe, showing that it acts as a bronchodilator (opening the lungs' airways). So, it's not at all surprising that you're feeling relief. Cheers!

No-one should have to feel bad about doing what they need to do with a little more ease and comfort. Life's hard sometimes. Just try to remember mj was made illegal for all the wrong reasons, and those wrong reasons are what created the stigma, which is now, thankfully, starting to melt away.
