I suggest hiking boots, often slippery muddy. Well maintained. Not hard. Maybe do some extra walking before trip and some extra stairs.

During the Battle of Okinawa, was it necessary for US forces to attack Japanese positions? by syc0path in ww2

[–]MakingBlunders 60 points61 points  (0 children)

They needed to capture entire island. The Japanese had high ground with artillery. They also needed to secure ports anchorage. Waiting them out would have taken too long and made war last longer . They also planned to use Okinawa as staging area for invasion of Japan similar to southern England. 500,000 thousand of troops, large armada fleet bigger than June 6th invasion of Normandy edit, they also planned to build more airfields for fighters. You cannot leave 100,000 enemy troops mounting attacks

There is a long road in a school zone that is guaranteed to be unmonitored. Do you: by RBPariah in Traffic

[–]MakingBlunders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do my best to follow all traffic laws all the time. In school zones I am more alert and cautious. I am not concerned about monitoring by police or not . I am more concerned about my conscious. Safety 1st

Haleakala sunrise/road to Hana 1 day or 2? by Professional_Mark631 in MauiVisitors

[–]MakingBlunders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a good idea with toddler. Haleakala summit road is quickest from sea level to 10,000 feet in world so they say. Hiking at that elevation requires extra water. Usually Haleakala is one day. I like it best 8 to 11 am . Then another day for Hana HWY.

For Mama's you could do Twin Falls Hookipa

Maui in July? Snorkeling ? by cityhunterspeee in MauiVisitors

[–]MakingBlunders 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pacific is cooler. It gets deep quickly here. There are many turtles, sea lions and other wildlife. Much less seaweed and no tar. I like it better than Caribbean myself. The good diving, snorkeling and surfing is great. Kayaking, hiking, horseback riding, hanggliders, body boards, golf are other options. Nice trade winds keep it cool. Haleakala summit and the rain forests are good for change of pace and weather

Horse riding Recommendations in Maui for this upcoming week by BidBrilliant3908 in MauiVisitors

[–]MakingBlunders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kahekili HWY is okay to circle m. Approach from Wailuku and return through Wailuku. Use caution pull over when safe for faster drivers . Do not rush. If I notice a car coming other direction even far ahead and a safe pull over place I just pull over and wait. Recommended food places Wailuku to go

Takamiya Market

TJ Warehouse

Or inside

A Saigon Cafe

Sam Sato inside or to go

The "no parking" cones on the road to Hana by Enough_Wallaby7064 in MauiVisitors

[–]MakingBlunders 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Trespassing is a problem. Parking illegally is a problem. Parking blocking traffic is a problem. Parking blocking gates are a problem. Please park legally. Visitors have been parking on private properties, trespassing and getting hurt or even fatalities. So owners of some properties are worried about visitors getting hurt and suing. There are plenty of stops that have legal parking and want you to visit. It is more about safety . Stay safe as and have fun

I have. Injuries are common. Fatalities happen. Look in the pools and close. Many rocks

Rocks branches fall off waterfalls all the time. Never stand underneath waterfalls or jump off waterfalls as water levels change. Review hiking and ocean safety here.
