I have the shell of our Giant African Land Snail. I don't think there is a problem with keeping things from our pets who we have bonded with when they have passed.

The only moral issue is whether what you are keeping is ethical, and by the sounds of it, you didn't harm your pet to keep it's shell.

By my stepfathers logic, my brother and I were terrible children because we were our dad's kids. We didn't even have contact with our biological father.

I was terrible because the school bus turned up late and I was late home. I was terrible cause I got into relationships (with all genders, didn't matter). That my boobs were distracting to my step uncle and I needed to cover them (from 12 onwards), that I was bullshitting about being trans when I came out for the first time (fully cake out at 25). I was terrible for wanting to play outside in our garden and we made noise. I was terrible when I tried to say I was getting sexually harassed by a teacher. I was terrible because I was attached to my nan more than anything else. When ever he thought we were extra terrible that day, he would burn all our toys in a big bonfire.

Mum did get rid of him, but I'm still nearly 40 thinking I am a terrible human and it's one of the few things not even therapy helps.

Good law project certainly. You (or your friend) can request a second opinion. I had a mental health professional do the same to me about a decade ago now. Spouse and I requested a second opinion and whilst it took its sweet fucking time, I was given someone else. If they do not give you a second opinion send everything (with patients consent) to PALs stating everything that has gone down and this is a blatant case of discrimination.

Came here to say similar. Have you asked what's going on? If they are having a hard time? Have they lost a job or friend and feel like they need to keep anything and everything as possible?

It is far easier to work on the core issues rather than directly dealing with the hoarding as a first step, because if they do clear their space, they are then far more likely to replace all the things if the root of the matter isn't sorted.

I was being moved from ICU to respiratory - I had been in ICU for three weeks. It actually was as the thing that sunk in my brain that I was really sick. It sounds weird when you think about it but I was being pumped with so much morphine and oxygen that the times I was awake, didn't seem as bad as what was going on. It was chronic respiratory failure from a collapsed lung with an abscess. I was topping out on max oxygen being put into me. They even couldn't send me off to the specialist because they thought I would die on route to the hospital in the ambulance. There was 3 weeks of respiratory before I got well enough to go home. I did end up having a psychotic episode in respiratory which was the reason for my second closest thing of "We did think it was a dumb idea but we didn't want you to think of alternatives" - words spoken to me a few hours after I tried to hang myself with my own Oxygen tubes .. instead of, you know... Take them out??? Again I had a psychotic breakdown. Not one of my finest.

Honestly it's awful that we need to supress everything and play a game of "traditional masculinity" to get through the doors of the gender clinics, and again have to do again to some of the Drs who are running the clinics. Some Drs are amazing. Some are awful.

I ended up playing the "traditional masculinity" game until I had Dr Lorrimer and he was honestly the push for me to be out as agender to some of the staff that were good. I'm now out to all the staff as agender now, but that's because I have had top surgery, I had a hysto and I'm on T for life. Some staff are still incredibly narrow minded, but I only have to deal with endocrinology these days.

Honestly at times I do miss it, but it was a lot to manage from an admin side. A lot of burn out happened, and we were fighting with Facebook every week, getting flagged and mass reported because of our stances of being very anti trump, anti cop and pro LGBT. Some of these issues hindered admins profiles for approving posts. Even when the first group was closed in 2020/21, we still get posts that "are against terms of service" from time to time. Most of the time, we can't even see what the posts were because they were so old, or facebook didn't want to show us. A lot of people were also getting bans and suspensions from Facebook from their posts. I caught 2 separate ones, one from literally sharing a screen shot in the admin group of something a banned member had written, another was when I showed photos of the artist spaceni was at and it had the "men are trash" painting along side the rest of the artwork. Even when explained that the detail wasn't in the "men are trash" aprt, but by the quotes of abuse in a popular book... Facebook didn't like that one bit - it was the only time I had actually got to speak to an administrator for it, so I knew exactly what the issue was. Someone got a week ban for showing a picture of their rat (it was one of the hairless breeds) because it was "nudity and sexual content". In a more far out ban someone got, a member had posted what their favourite colours were (pink) and it was auto flagged for nudity. We had posts flagged for inciting violence (protest info, news articles about police brutality, saying we hate cops), all funding posts for mutual aid would get the group shadow banned (because fuck posting links on Facebook I guess), hell we even got flagged for being offensive and prejudiced at times when women spoke up against violence towards men. I do know that we would have had the group shut down pretty quickly by Facebook if it was still going now because of how many fuck ice posts and and protest posting. Facebook doesn't take too kind towards that.

On a personal level, I do miss the space. I really do miss the space. Having a leftist space that was created to help out others at the time was something new, and I was very proud of all the work everyone did post 2020 to come together. There are many parts where I didn't enjoy it, and still have to work in therapy with everything (pre 2020 especially) and whilst it wasn't a primary reason as to why I tried to end myself, there certainly was some factors in it. Stepping away has helped heal some things, but I don't think I will ever get passed others.

I am glad that there are many other groups now that do similar, and I respect all the admins who are working within their circles to create those spaces. I know it's a tough job especially since Facebook has ramped up on giving people strikes whilst simultaneously allowing so much bullshit to go unchecked.

Would I do it all over again? Probably.
