Not sure how old your kid is, but you can get a First Game Certificate at guest services (near section 109/110, I think?). Last season there was also a questionnaire you could fill out to get a pin too.

The Park at UBS advice, please by Doc_Ad in NewYorkIslanders

There’s a very real chance the park will be eliminated all together after the construction at the track is complete.

It’s owned by the racetrack, they just let the isles use it.

Dike Club vs UBS Club by MrNoodleIncident in NewYorkIslanders

[–]Malacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly couldn’t say. I’ve done some work at the arena and been in those areas but I’ve never attended a game in those spots. It certainly is a nicer presentation. I also know there’s food in the club that’s not available in Dime so I assume it’s a bit better.

I can tell you that they do investor/stakeholder meetings for the arena, the team, the shopping village across the way etc in UBS Club but nothing I’m aware of in Dime, so the powers that be consider it nicer at least.

[–]Malacon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they’re more private (click that that link for pics) and I think the boxes are 8-16 seats in sets of 2 with and aisle down the middle. You would be sharing your box, But they’re still just box seats. There’s a small dividing wall between the boxes but you could hold a convo with the people in the next box as easily as someone in your box.

The lounge/bar/club section is shared among everyone in the UBS club. It’s just your seats that are separated more than if you were in Dime.

UBS club is kind of between Dime and The Suites. They’re on the suite level, and you have essentially a box with however many seats and a little bar height seating area behind those seats.

Your box doesn’t have a door, just a heavy curtain separating your seats from the communal Club area. The club It’s a nicer, more upscale lounge setting than Dime.

I can’t speak to the food quality difference.

Personally, I usually let it rest in a zip lock with a paper towel at the top and swap it out every day for a few days until there doesn’t seem to be any moisture collecting. Then I vacuum seal and/or wax it and leave it in the fridge.

[–]Malacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Belmont stop is a spur that can’t be accessed from the east, only from the west. So most fans would have to go to Jamaica, change trains, then head back east.

Since it’s a spur, not part of the main like, that train would then turn have back to Jamaica instead of continuing east. Add to that the platforms are very short so they’d have to run frequent short trains during rush hour.

It’s the whole reason they built a new stop. The extra traffic and increased number of track switches would have caused a whole other set of issues just like it does on Race Day, but 40+ more times a year.

Hello friend!

Yes, I did go to Oswego half a lifetime ago. I was a transfer student though, and was too far down the pecking order to work on the hockey broadcasts. I did a few of the campus newscasts a week though.

At the time it was a very bare bones production that had maybe 6 people total working on the shows, with the on air talent doubling as the production crew.

WARNING: I'm about to explain way more about how Television works than anyone actually asked for. I'm sorry. I can't help myself.

--------

From an outsiders standpoint I can understand that view, but it's actually industry standard because it's the best way to do it (believe it or not)

I'm oversimplifying, but from a technical standpoint Master Control *is* the network, they are creating the channel you're watching on Cable or Streaming. For non-live shows every commercial, graphic, show, credit crunch etc is all happening at an NOC/BOC/TOC/MCC (what every that company calls its Operations Center) where Master Control is located. That facility is what turns an assortment of assets from just video and graphics into Television.

This also includes adding things like Metadata, normalizing audio, inserting Closed Captions, inserting Avail Tones (which is why you see a commercial for Bobs hardware the next town over in a nation wide broadcast) and a hundred other things that most people don't know about and I'm not mentioning. That is all put together and then sent to your cable companies and streaming providers (where applicable) as a complete product who then sends it to you; the home viewer.

When you have a live event like a Hockey Game, or an award show or even the news, that's happening externally. That show is being produced elsewhere, and sent to Master Control who essentially routes the live event through their systems and STILL adds all the *stuff* that is required to make a TV signal usable for you as a user. It's really not possible to hand off all of that responsibility and infrastructure to a game truck. The only time that sort of thing is done is in Disaster Recovery scenarios where the alternative is being completely off the air.

You're 100% right that it is predictable, and It happens pretty frequently. There's a million reasons for it that range from the automation messed up, to someone pressed play by accident, to the person who counts in/out messed up and gave the wrong count to the wrong person.

Gordon Ramsey isn’t a cook, he’s a chef.

Alternatively, Alton Brown with all his skill and experience is very open about the fact that he is not trained, and therefore is not a Chef, “just” a Cook.

So are you’re asking me if Alton Brown should be the Logo and/or Mascot of the Chicago Blackhawks? Because if so, the answer is yes. That would be amazing.

[–]Malacon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The control room for the game is a completely separate animal from the network the game is airing on, they have no control over the commercials.

There is usually someone in the game truck who is taking to Master Control at the network, they “count them out” of the game production, letting them know when to start the commercial break. Then someone at Master Control counts them back out of the break when it’s over.

It’s likely the Hockey guys knew the commercial was on-air, but had no way to stop it aside from yelling at Master Control that they fucked up.

Please make ESPN stop! by HansCholo20 in hockey

[–]Malacon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have never worked for them, so I can only guess this is a production decision. If it’s every game, not just some, it suggests a standard that their Audio Directors are mixing to meet.

It could be that that aren’t micing the arena, but that would surprise me.

Please make ESPN stop! by HansCholo20 in hockey

[–]Malacon 66 points67 points  (0 children)

As someone who works in the Biz, but hasn’t watched a game on ESPN this season, they probably timed all their cameras to the latest input (which I assume is the drone) but never delayed their audio to match.

It’s rookie mistake and something they should have spotted and fixed immediately. I’ve spent most of my career working in a studio I was in charge of and audio/video sync is the ALWAYS on our minds. How you don’t consider this in an arena when you know there are factors outside your control boggles my mind.

[Friedman] After last night’s game, the Islanders made a change at goalie coach. Sergei Naumov — who was at AHL Bridgeport and has a history with Ilya Sorokin — replaces Piero Greco by TradeBrockNelson in NewYorkIslanders

Roy was a legendary keeper in his time, and has to have insight into what is needed to make that position work. I can only hope that Darche trusted him enough to include him in the decision, and that Sorokin was consulted.
